External Antannae

Alrighty, who here would like the antannae from a VW or a BMW on our car? I really like that look, and might throw one on my rear window, even if it serves no purpose at all.

Whatdaya'll think?

I'm only 1/2-way serious here, I'm just feelin around for some support/criticism, etc.

P.S. Anybody think that we couuld actually use the antannae to boost the signal of our FM/AM? It's pretty shitty.

P.P.S. Where can I buy an antannae? And for how much?

Do yourself a favor and reserve that space for a cellphone antennae. If u have a cellphone, do the driving population a favor and get a real car kit with speakerphone and mic.. I've almost been hit by incosiderate ppl on their cells that claim it doesn't infringe on their ability to drive. I have a cell phone and try like hell never to use it in a car, if I do, it's the hands free..

The BMW style antennae would look cool for a cellphone.... much better loking than that spiral wire thingie most companies produce

Silver, i'm not sure how car audio works, but for general comptuer speakers, if the speaker wire is unshieled it acts like a big phat antennae. At home, if my cellphone is on the desk, the speakers buzz when an incoming call comes in. Also, when my speakers are powered, I pickup what sounds likes either Wyld 94.9 or Z 95.7. Heh....
I haven't had it happen in the car, yet.

Yes, I have a Nokia 6160 and it is in a slot right by the radio head unit. Whenever a call is made, there is interference in the radio. For the most part, it's just an annoyance. Ever used your cell phone close to your computer when it's on??

If you like antenna, go to kmart and get some of those fake cellular antennas. Better yet, get six or seven and put them on the roof like the police cars...and then get a big bullwhip like a HAM radio operator and put your call sign in "mailbox lettering" on the trunk lid.

ARE YOU TOTALLY FRICKING NUTS!

(File this in the criticism column)

What I found incredibly handy is the power plug in the center console compartment. I just wind the power plug into the cup holder throufgh the pass-thru, plug in my phone and plug in my ear set. Change the phone to auto-answer after 2 rings for long rides, and the only time I look at the phone is to dial a number. No biggy... Now all i need is video in the nav. . . :-)

Isn't the antenna in the grids in the back window? This is where it was on my 99 Chrysler 300M. Couldn't have an external cell phone antenna on that car because with the older 3 watt bag phone I had in there, it would wipe out certain FM bands in the 90-100 range when I used the phone! I'd get all static.

Hey guys, about the cellphones..... This is a radiation chart from CNET.

http://www.cnet.com/wireless/0-19234...3401-7-2587641

This may explain why or why not ur celly interferes with your speakers....
My 7190 isn't as bad with interfering my speakers as my old 6190 was... heh. Enjoy!
