Exhaust System

I am looking to install a new exhaust system. I plan on keeping with duals and custom bending pipes with two HKS Universal Stainless Hi-Power Muffler (120mm tip). Does anyone have any suggestions on this set-up? What other exhaust systems are other CL owners happy with?

there's a few different set up's that guys here on the board have. i'm not sure about the HKS set up, maybe someone else can help you with that.

I have the full Comptech set up and i like it. sounds good and not too loud. it adds a nice deeper tone to the car

There is A LOT of different set ups. Just look around and you'll find something to your liking.

you'll probably be happy if you just kept your stock piping, deleted your mid-muffler and added those HKS universal mufflers...? try it out and if that doesnt keep you satisfied go and do a custom job.

Exclamation Need Help With Exhaust System Set-Up!

I am really debating what is the BEST/IDEAL exhaust system set-up. I am still looking at custom bending pipes and going with dual HKS Universal Stainless Hi-Power Mufflers (unsure of which size to go with though). I want my exhaust to have a nice, deep, throaty sound to it. I'm not real savvy with exhaust systems, but here are some things I found through research that some people have down with their set-ups: removed resonator, removed mid-muffler, installed galvanized straight pipe, removed silencer, installed y-pipe, installed j-pipe, etc. What should I do to my '01 CL to achieve that deep, throaty sound?

Also in regards to my mufflers, should I go with the mufflers that have ~3" piping diameter and ~4.7" tip so I can have custom 3" piping OR do I go with the mufflers that have ~2.36" piping diameter and ~3.78" tip?

Is it possible to have true dual exhaust on a CL? It doesn't seem like there would be enough space...

Thanks in advance for all your help/input! I really appreciate it!

There really isnt any space to run a true dual setup. Id go with 2.5" piping from the cat back to resonator, then split to the mufflers. Id go with the 2.36" muffler if thats the brand you are set on getting.

What mods have you done to the car? It sounds like you are looking for sound more then power.

I haven't done too much to my engine, YET. My performance modifications are: AEM V2 Air Induction System with Injen HydroShield, HKS USA S-Series Super Fire Racing Spark Plugs, K&N Performance Gold Oil Filter & just bought an Excelerate Performance Custom Aluminum Radiator.

I want the best of both worlds; I am looking for sound & power I am pretty set on the HKS Mufflers because I found a video on YouTube
of a TL-S that has a nice sounding exhaust system. He has HKS mufflers and AEM intake. I am open to ANY suggestions for my set-up. I want my exhaust system to sound pretty similar to this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lErgwZ1wRwI

Just remember that the TL-S has a 3.5l, so it will sound different.

I think the HKS mufflers are huge, and some people don't like them because of that. I really like the magnaflow that many people go with.

hey carmodifier, which model CL do you have? the stock type-s exhaust is already pretty free-flowing that replacing it yeilds REALLY low gains in HP and trq. Also you can expand your search for used or new system by also looking for systems from a 2003-2007 accord v6 coupe, the 2 cars have exactly the same exhaust setup.

In stock trim, the car wont get any gains from an exhaust, however once you start doing work to engine it will need to breath better.

If all he wants is power, he should just get axle backs.

I have an '01 CL Non-Type-S. Could I also look for systems from a 1999-2003 Acura TL? It seems like the Second Gen Cl's and TL's are usually real similar, especially in terms of parts.

The exhaust system on a 2g TL is longer than a 2g CL, so you will have to get it cut down to fit. Since you have a premium model, you will have to find a full cat-back for your "power and sound".
