EVO VIII Kill... YES!!!

Finally.... ran a white one twice today... he did have a passenger though.

First time... I don't think he knew were were racing... so that doesn't count.

Second time... he was behind me, but I waited until he was flooring it at my rear bumper and then I gunned it.

Took him by 3.5 cars!!!!

I still have my full stock exhaust and cat... so I am pretty confident the car will hit very low 13's or might hit a 12!!

I am so freaking happy!

I doubt I'd take him from a stand-still on street-tires.... but at the track I'll be on slicks... so I don't see a problem

I live in Woodland Hills, btw.

With the upgraded valve springs... you think we could safely up the revs to 7500rpm or more? The car really screams from 6000rpm up and then it's already time to shift. It would be sweet to see a couple hundred more rpms... or are you upgrading the springs/retainers to handle the larger cam?

This is still in the 'thought' stage... so take it at that. However, I think the stock valve-train can handle about 7700RPM... but with a heavy cam, that's pushing it.

I also checked on the 1/4-mile times for the Evo VIII... its more like 13.5 or 13.6 @ 101-102mph.. so its not that impressive... hence I am disappointed!

The stock Evos are running 13.9s up at LACR, so 13.4-5 sounds about right.

taking one from a roll isnt that impressive, but beating it by 3+ car lengths is. race one from a stop to see how you do...not hating, i seriously want to know what your car can do against one for a better judgment on what your running 1/4 mile wise.

If you can get it traction then ususally 10 rwhp will give you .1 in the 1/4, at least that is what I have seen everytime I run my car after a mod. So if you hit 13.4-13.5 which I would think you will then you need your mods that are "in the works" to give you roughly 40 or more rwhp. Either that or you can go crazy w/ the suspension mods. I've seen cars run 12.9 at 103 mph with a complete suspension set up. Either way I really wish you the best of luck getting into the 12's - that would be very very impressive.
As for the kill story- nice job I bet that guy was wondering what the hell you had done to put 3.5 cars on him.

It's funny because I talked to the guy... and his face was just in shock, I think. He said he's going to do this and that to the car... and I said that the EVO has a lot of potential!!

You are correct... in that it takes about 10whp to improve 1/10th in the quarter for a car in the 3000'ish lbs weight-range. I will be on slicks when I run at the track, so I believe traction won't be a problem. I will also be running a wheel/tire combo that is 50% lighter than stock, which will help as well. It's a 24lbs rotational mass saving on each front wheel.

I was running 12.6's and 12.7's at 105-106mph in my civic. This is about 9lbs/fwhp. To achieve 9lbs/fwhp in my car, I need about 377hp!! That's a lot of horsepower.

ok i gotta ask- what did you do to that civic to make it runs the same mph as my Cobra???? I would be quite shocked if I ran into you on the streets in that thing...I can garuntee I'd sound like the guy you ran in the Evo.

It was a 1.8L motor making 204fwhp in an 1900lb shell... there are tons of those running around town!! And it was naturally aspirated.

Nowadays there are street-driven civics running 115+mph naturally aspirated.. just some weight reduction. They probably will easily hit 110mph in street-trim.

You'll always take those cars because with that much power, you are traction limited.

WARNING the following is off topic BUT may be amusing..
here's an interesting story about one of those type ( fast) civics.

A kid pulls up next to my friend and I ( in a 97 nissan altima w/ flowmaster exhaust and a few mods) the kis has a primer black hatch civic with a huge tach and exhaust. He thows my buddy a rev and I tell my friend to go for it cause its prob. a "stupid otherwise stock civc with just an exhaust." ( a nice blanket and ignorant statement ). My buddy agrees and tells me how he loves beating civics. We began to plan on how we would beep and wave good bye as we blew his doors off.

Well the light turns green and this kid proceeds to put what I would guess to be several tain lengths on us as he smoked the tires. All I saw was his shift light go on 3 times and a bluish flame come out the tail pipe when he shifted. By the time we hit 80 I needed a telescope to see the civic.
We eventually catch up and see that there are 2 passengers in the car and they all have a shit eating grin on their faces. We got next to him going 40mph and were about to ask what he had done when he dumped it down a gear and began to smoke the tires as he pulled away with his hazards on. Needless to say this civic was fast. I later found out that the civic was running 12.4x with a gsr motor and god only knows what else.

nice kill...

the EVO's shining moment though is from a dig. From a roll stock 6 speed should be tailing really close to an EVO from what I've seen.

I tried to get an STi to play yesterday but he ended up going the other way leaving the store. Provided we didn't get stopped at a light I felt pretty confident. I was alone and he had two other guys with him.

The turbo would have run mid 12's if I had slicks with the old setup... low 12's, I think!
