Everyone w/ CT Icebox .....

On the advice of some people here I went ahead and ordered the K&N filter for the CT Icebox since the original CT foam filter was dirty ... Amazing difference! Everyone who has the original CT filter needs to change it to this K&N.

Wasn't expecting much, but it has made the car respond as it should. Just overall better response ... stronger pulls throughout the RPM's now .... No more pinging when the engine gets a little hot ...

OH yeah and to top it off it's giving me better MPG !!!!!!

could some of that had to do with the filter just being dirty? you can wash and reuse oil bath filters as well you know.

Actually it wasn't that dirty.

The difference is noticable since I had the Icebox installed new (hence, a new CT foam filter ....)

Yep, that's where I got mine. That price is pretty good, so I now have two of them that I can swap out at my leisure.

Anyone using those new dryflow filters, the ones that you dont need the oil? I was thinking of getting one after hearing of possible issues with the MAF and the oil, but I don't know what size filter would fit.

Lemme get this straight - you can.... feel the difference?

How many extra HP do you think you are getting?

i just ordered my ct icebox and i wanted to change the filter to the k&n one. i haven't physically seen the filter yet so i'm not sure, but the part number you have here is a cone shaped filter. i assumed that the ct filter is a flat rectangle. am i wrong? so this part number is a direct replacement part for the ct icebox? thanks for info

Not to disrespect 6speedctrlfreak, but I switched from the Comptech air filter to the K & N 2590 - (I also ordered it from ajusa) about a year ago, but other than a slight increase in sound, I don't think I felt much of a difference in performance.

I think it is a good idea to switch to the K & N, but if it adds more than 1 horsepower I would be surprised.

Talking

I'm getting better MPG ... no doubt about it.
The engine does not struggle as much as it did in the hot / humid weather as it was before.
I would swear on a stack of ... well, you know ... that when you punch it into the 4-5 k rpm range it is better.

And ... nnnoooooo... I don't have the dyno's to prove it !!

Installation note --- it is a very tight fit ( since I don't think it is actually designed for the CT appliction) where it actually attaches to the CT plastic tube piece. Some people here have used a blowdryer to warm the rubber up a bit and some have made a few small slits in the rubber to ease it onto the CT plastic connecter peice

( adjusted for inflation ... hahahahah)

I noticed change of tone, maybe throttle response. I could not feel any HP difference though. Like everyone else said, it is a very tight fit.

My ct filter was dirty as hell, so i cleaned it and noticed i got a bit of my low end back. But, that foam is a pita to clean, so i'm gonna get the k&n too. Just dont overoil the k&n, otherwise you'll have a nice coat of red oil all the way to the throttle body.

i love the growl you get from it too. i heard it's AEM-like, but with slightly better gains.

that AJUSA shop here in Mira Mesa (San Diego area) is a bad ass shop. they have all the imports covered. from Civics to 911s.

so the sound is different when you push it? how about when you idle? I remember one of the things I hated (but oddly loved) was the hiss of the AEM while you were @ standstill; and how you could pretty much hear the hissing when you drove around normally.

What about the K&N filters that come in their own casing to reduce heat? or are they pointless in the icebox housing?

Same here. I didn't see, or hear or notice 1 bit of difference.

hey guys, anyone who is planning on putting in the K&N, I just did mine and it definitely sounds a little more aggressive, but i didn't get a chance to really test it out yet.

As to the fitment issues that some people have been having: If you take the clamp off the foam filter (slightly larger diameter than K&N clamp) and replace it with the one on the K&N, there is more than enough extra room to fit the filter on the intake tube without cutting, sanding, etc. Thought this might be helpful.

I love the hissing, even at cruising speeds.
