Ever Check The Value of Your Car?

I just did and I dont know why.

In its current state it is worth just under $10k private party, or $12.7k retail.

Thats depressing.

Yea I dont know why I decided to look. Im not in the position to sell right now.

Although I have been toying with this idea when I am ready to move on:

Take the engine and drop it into a 4 door Civic or Integra, part out the rest. Or just part out the whole thing. I'd probably make more that way anyway.

That may take to long though, since I do have my eye on another car as a daily.

Its European, and not a BMW or Audi.

I don't because I know how depressing it is. An Accord the same year cost less new and is worth more now/ FML.

You'd be better off finding an Accord or Civic driver that wants a nicer car, trading them for your car and then selling the Accord/Civic.

I really dont care either i paid 30k for it new and now its worth 5 K so I lost 25k in 9 years.. 9/25 = 2,777 a year... So it cost me $2,777 a year to dive this car thats $231 a month thats $7.71 a day. So my car depriciated $7.71 every day I drove it.
Look at a 05 RL $50k brand new now u can find one with 50k miles for $20K (my next car BTW) so in 4 years it lost $30K where our car lost 25k in 9 years so I think were doing prtty well.. Look at a M35 or 45 they are like 55k new and u can find a 06 for 25k.
Bottom line a car IS NOT a investment!

I was actually just noticing how much those M series are depreciating in value. It's ridiculous. I've never bought a car with plans to sell it though, I buy it to enjoy it.

Yea, most cars arent investments. But seeing how an Accord of the same vintage and condition is worth more is saddening.

For a car that did not sell well and is no longer in production, it's current value is probably about right.

thats true, im thinking im going to definitely buy another car in about 2-3 years, but I am so picky to begin with, not to mention a rare, beautiful car you dont see many of on the road is a must for me, but every great sports car is too popular and well known....maybe Audi S5 in a couple years will be in my price range?...or not...

That's true. That's one of the reasons I loved my SHO. You could go weeks without seeing another one on the road. Well that and the ability to blow the doors off a Corvette on the highway.

That they were. Only other normal production car making more HP per liter back when they debuted was the Corvette. It was even faster then the Mustang back then too. I'd trade the sound of VTEC on our engines for the sound of the secondaries opening on the SHO in a heartbeat. Still the best intake sound out there.

I took a look at Galves (book DLrs use for trade-ins) and the 2001 CL-s is booked out for 200 more then 2001 acorrd v6 w/leather, that really does not make sense but new wasnt the CL-s only 2K more then a v6 accord w/leather?

2001 4dr Sedan 3.0 EX w/Leather was $25k, 2001 CL was $28 and CL-S was $30k.

I was basing it off the 03 CLS vs the 03 Accord Coupe similarly equipped. Those were a $2k difference in MSRP.

Back in November when I had 20k LESS miles on the CL, a dealer was going to give me $7k.

All my friends think that my CL is worth like $20,000. But they're all idiots. Maybe I'll just sell it to one of them when I'm done with it.

(note: Yea, I obviously know it's not worth 20k)

Haha. I just realized that my friend spent the same on his 04 Civic (used) that I did on the CL. Hahaha.

Most likely a CUV or sporty SUV; candidates:
- Audi Q5
- Infiniti FX50
- Mercedes-Benz GLK
- Porsche Cayenne

Will try (simply because they are in the same max price I'm willing to pay):
- Mercedes-Benz C63 AMG (this is a dark horse)
- Volvo S80
- Cadillac CTS-V
- Land Rover Ranger Rover Sport
- Lexus GS450h

Yeah...big list; and it'll be after I get hitched in August...

No VWs for me

The RLs are really nice. I like the pre-MMC current gen, but its a shame it didnt have a 6MT available.

You must be using excellent condition... I look mine up at least once a year...

Bought my 6spd for $29.5K back in Oct '02, and it's probably only worth 9K in a private sale... so I've lost 20K in value over the last 6 1/2 years... This is why I'll probably buy used next time....

Heck, a 03 civic sold for about half the price of my CL, and a 03 civic seems to retail for about the same as a 03 CL (with similar mileage on it)...

Yeah, in hindsight, I should have bought a 03 Accord 6mt, but they didn't come out till spring of 03, and I was looking for a new car in fall of 02...

Can't go wrong with an Accord... they will be making 'em forever...

Remember, we're driving a coupe which isn't good for resale, and it's a discontinued coupe...

I think I'm going to keep mine for a few more years... with the worst of the depreciation curve behind me, and with only 85K miles, my 6spd should be good for another 6 years / 80k miles before I starts giving me any major troubles

No, that was "good" condition. I dont know a single car that is in excellent condition.
