Escort 7500 or 8500?

keeping the V1 out of this,
is there much difference between the escort 7500 vs the newer 8500 model?

I didn't see any difference between the two except the price and the colour. I've owned them both but no longer (I'm a believer).

I have the 7500 and like it. Dont know if the 8500 is better or not but 7500 is very effective (against radar, not laser, of course)

8500. IMHO, forgot both & get the V1. But, in any case, you absolutely get what you pay for .

Well a friend of mine got the 8500, I do have to say this the unit is much heavier than the 7500 (which I have). I also figured that the 8500 has better, or rear laser detection?? (which I figured is the funny radar dome type thingy on top of the unit by the display). I've only seen laser once, and i'm figuring if you get hit with laser from the rear (does that even do any good??) it's probably too late anyways.

I think the 8500 is software programable, while the 7500 is not (that I am aware of). The 8500 also comes with the smart cord, but it's really up to you to decide if these differences make up for the 100$ price difference between the two. As far as useful features and sensitivity I think they rate about the same.

I know the v1 is better, but I think the escort is rated #2.

Or is there a better one between the escort and v1??

After the V1, you are free to mix and match the rest of 'em. It doesn't matter after "the best".

I have a V1 and 8500... Like them both, but use the 8500 in the CLS. I think it functions just as good and looks better.

The code upgrade feature of the 8500 may protect your investment down the road.

Sorry V1 fans, but if you follow this link you'll see the V1 got its radar detecting butt kicked. Now I realize this is probably a site sponsored by ESCORT, but what if it isn't? For $100 less I'll take the chance with the ESCORT 8500. Although, I'll have to admit I'll miss the radar dectecing arrow of the V1.

This test was highly flawed as proven by Valintine, test was completed by a guy that was a payed consultant for escort, and also he had been turned down for employment by Valintine.

How can you quote this @#$%# test when every Car Mag found completely Different resuts.

I can quote this because times change, but the V1 hasn't. The ESCORT has the latest DSP technology, but the V1 hasn't changed since 1997. IMHO it is highly possible that the ESCORT's new DSP technology out performes the V1. Furthermore, I haven't seen any magazines put radar detectors head to head in about 5 years. Have you?

I am happily to say that I have an Escort SR-1 installed. This unit actually has the 7500 as it's processor and main antenna. As you know it also has Laser detection. So far I am very happy with it. As of late, our state police are starting to use Laser guns. This detector is sensitive enough to pick up the signal when the officer is picking through a group of us and not specifically focused on me. The only tuff part is to remember not to flip out when you hear a cell phone going off in your car, and you know you don't have one, It's that Buck Rogers State trooper and he is IS painting you or your immediate area. Also note that during my install of the SR-1, I happened to call Escort and spoke to one of their techs, he really thought that the 8500 was markedly better than the 7500 and smarter. He also commented that the current V-1 unit was old tech by comparison, and that they were expecting V-1 to come out with a new unit pretty soon.

You know, This is one of those "Apple vs IBM" type discussions...

But those always WERE good.

Anyway, let's assume first that both detectors are equal or close to equal - just for argument's sake.

For that extra $100 (only $.0013 per day if you keep it for 2 years!), you get TWO radar sensors, TWO laser sensors, a light sensor (auto-dim, not lame manual-dim) and a hard-wire kit AND a visor mount. Since our accessory plug is WAAY to low to look at, the "smart" cord is a moot point.

And for those who say the V1 is not programmable - that's bunk! They just didn't look deep enough on the v1 site.

I know you said not to talk about the V1, but it just plain out ROCKS!
