Engine pinging when in gear but not pressing accelerator.

Like when I'm at a red light.

The ECU must need some setting changed because it's not liking the 93 Octane I feed it.

I bet it's screwing up my performance nicely.

I hope the next time I am near the dealer, it's doing it, because the past two times I've been down that way, it mysteriously disappeared.

It's so obvious the rest of the time though. Ugh.

It could be a bad batch of gas you put in your car? I know that's happened to me a few times, and the engine kinda spits it up.

Well it's been doing this practically since I got my car, only it's gotten more audible lately.

I guess I COULD try using a different gas station (which would be really inconvenient but I dunno it COULD be something else is wrong with the engine, but it sounds like an engine ping to me (or knock or whatever you wanna call this intermittant clatter).)

I think all CL-S do that a little bit.

Ping, spark knock ,detonation etc only happen during acceleration.I have a hard time believing that it only pings at a light.I suspect that you may have an exhaust leak or some other device is making audible noise.Have your dealer look at this. The
ecu in your car is not reprogrammable so don't bother looking for an answer there.Jens

Jens,

Ok well it only occurs when the car is in a drive gear but stopped (like at a trafficlight).

It sounds to ME like it's a belt or maybe even something in the tranny that's loose.
My dad says he thinks it sounds like an engine knock, but what does he know.

And like I said it's an intermittent sound like something clanking against something else in a vibration way, but it comes and goes. Dunno how to explain it. I'll have to get it to the dealer tomorrow if I get a chance and hope it shows up this time. It's there any time when I'm not near the dealer.

I'll bet a shiny penny it's your AC Clutch engaging! Same thing here and is normal. Sounds EXACTLY like your description.

That would still be bad considering the A/C isn't ON.

That needs to be fixed then.

Sounds to me what you're hearing are the valves "ticking" - I've noticed that too! - Since it was gotten hotter and we're running this 5-30w OIL, it thins out like water when it's hotter out, and you can hear the valves "ticking"!
PS: Check your oil level to be sure it's full, too! Put some STP in it, and it will thicken it, so it won't "tick"!

Nope. Only if it's really hot and humid, then I'll hit Auto and set it for 75F.

Tensioner Pulley.

That's the word.

Tech said it sounds like it's binding.

It's at the dealer right now, hopefully fixed tonight if they have the parts in stock.

I miss her already.

Nope. Your problem must be different. Or just worse condition than mine. Dunno.
