Emission Canister and Canister Shut Off Valve
My "Check Engine Light" light came on and it turned out to be a 1457 "Auxialiiary Emissions Control" error! Brought the car to the dealer and they said the problem is the Emissions control canister and the "canister shut off valve". They want $420 to fix this!!!
So my questions are: Can I fix this myself (have about moderate level of wrenching skills)? If so, where can I buy these parts? Thanks in advance for any help you can provide!

Not sure of the exact name... but it is the one that is under the car under the passenger seat area. I just purchased the Helms manual, but if anyone has it and wants to scan the couple of pages concerning this, that would be awesom!
I think the purge valve is on the firewall in the engine compartment and is that POS that clicks and sounds like noisy lifters? I allready replaced that and guess what, it still clicks! <- Waste of $50!
Thanks for any help!

The manual will give you test instructions so you can pinpoint the problem. If the canister needs to be replaced, it isn't bad. Just need to get under the car to get at it. It's possiable the new valve you got was bad. It happend to me the 1st time.
Question... do you top off the gas a lot? Overfill it? cause that will damage the purge system if done often. Going a long time with the vavle not working will also damage the canister.

The warranty is only for 4 year/50,000 miles for most parts. Some parts are warrantied for 7/70 or 8/80, as outlined in the warranty manual, pages 24-27 ( http://www.ahm-ownerlink.com/Documen...s/bwl23418.pdf ) .
I took my car to the dealer and they did the diagnostics, saying that I need to replace both the canister and "canister shut off valve". Yes, my car does get overfilled on a regular basis(but not anymore)! We can't pump our own gas in New Jersey, and the pump monkeys ALWAYS want to even off the dollar. Which makes absolutely NO SENSE since I always pay with a credit card! So, now I am screwed and have to pay for the repairs.
Hopefully, I can just change these parts myself! I just ordered my Helms manual today. But Acura charged $100 to scan and diagnose the "Check Engine Light". This is all major BS! I still appreciate advice on the actual repair and location of this part. Anyone have some more info, I just can't wait until the manual comes!

I also have this code and have had it for a while. I am reluctant to take it to the dealer for the same reasons as Mike...I don't want an ass raping. I can hear a clicking noise and I think its under the drivers seat area. Mike if you get this problem fixed with these parts could you let me know? I'd appreciate it.

Ok I'm in the service manual. I don't have a scanner so I won't be much help. But the code reads....
"Leak detected in Evap control system"
You test the purge valve, the the evap bypass solenoid valve, then the evap canister vent valve, then the canister system leak test.
From what I see it's all vacuum controlled. You could just have a vacuum leak from a loose hose, or hole in the hoses.

Thanks Fuzzy... your the man!
I picked the car up yesterday. It cost me $107, for them to scan and check it
. But, the light is now off and I am hoping it just never comes back on. But otherwise, I am gonna wait to see if the light comes back and for my Helms manual to arrive. If it does resurface, I will fix it then. Thanks for all of your help!!!

Can someone confirm that it is OK, and that I won't be damaging my car, by driving it before I replace this canister and valve? I want to drive about 800 miles this weekend and I dont think I will have time to replace it before I go? What do you think?

I've been driving mine for a long time (1+ years). No new codes or other problems have popped up. Everything seems normal. I was told by a tech at a garage that it shouldn't damage anything. i will fix it sometime though once i figure out what to replace.
