ebrake....parking on hills....proper technique?

What is the proper technique with the ebrake? It always scares me when I put the car in park(breke is depressed the entire time) and then I hit the ebrake and the car still rolls back! I'm i doing damage to the tranny? Is there a better technique? Wayne, Jens? Buellar? Thanks in advance!

Not that I ever use it but when I do, I ususlly put the gear in N while holding the brake, step on the ebreak, then move the shift to P.

Don't know if its right or wrong tho.

Correct except you left out two pieces. After you put the car in N and apply the parking brake, let go of the regular brakes and allow the car to roll until the parking brake holds. Then reapply the regular brakes and put the car in park.

If I don't do it this way, the car always seem to roll forward anyway onto the tranny if I go N first, then parking brake, then P without allowing the car to roll forward in N.

Second, always curb your wheels: http://www.sanfranciscoonline.com/bc...ing_in_SF.html
