E55 Benz AMG in C&D. Simply amazing

Just wow.

Basic Numbers:

469HP
516TQ

0-60 4.5,
1/4 12.7 @ 117, dont forget with an auto tranny

14inch vented discs in the front, 13 rear. 70-0 in 175ft

Add to all of this unmatched luxurious apointments and technology, this is a great vehicle for 74 grand. Just wow.

Here is a link.

E55

As much as I love the m5, I know it would be a real difficult decision choosing between this Benz and the m5 if I was faced with such.

i saw C&D Television last Sunday and they did a 5 minute segment on the E55. That thing is sick. They laid a good 15ft of rubber off the line. Too bad it's speed limited to 155mph

motor trend tv did a segment. they said that they still liked the m5 better. they said although the m5 wasn't as fast, "the e55 amg is driven by computers, and the m5 is driven by you" and so the m5 is more fun...

its still totally sick

If the E55 truly comes in at $74-$75k, what a bargain it will be (assuming you can find a dealer to write one for MSRP). With the lux tax gone now, its even better.

Seems to me the hp wars are making it awfully hard to stay at the top of the food chain. The M5 did it for two years, but was arguably dethroned by the RS6. Now the E55 lays claim to the top sedan, but it'll only last until the next gen V10 or s/c V8 M5. Gimme millions and I'd lease the latest, greatest sports sedans for 1-2 years max and move on to the next one! being rich certainly has it's advantages.

I saw that segement on C&D television yesterday & they said 12.4 @ 117mph.
I also read the article from the link you sent & it also says 12.4 L@@K

That is definitely Viper territory

March 2003 C&D says 12.7 but either way, its freaking crazy.

Also another quote: 'Mercedes says the new E55 will be priced at about $74,000. Thats only a thousand or so more than the m5, a relative bargain. " I agree.

I do know of one dealer in PA that has a no markup policy and that's MB of West Chester (in West Chester, PA).

Is that your dealer? Assuming it isn't a big secret

Everytime i get in the E500, let alone drive it, I am speechless...I cannot imagine what the E55 will be like...wow.

WOW! I'd have a tough time deciding between the E55, RS6 and M5! I guess I better get on the ball and make enough money to buy one or two of these bad bitches! I am liking the benz more and more!

yeah, i know they do it in the rest of the world. Very frustrating. You know....because i buy so many MB's all the time:P

I like the way Mercedes look better then a bimmer any day but i think i would pick a Bimmer over a Merc just for that reason.

I wonder if MB went the s/c route across their line because they couldn't beat BMW? Regardless, I wonder if BMW will give up the naturally aspirated M engines? Don't take this the wrong way, but it makes me feel like MB "broke" their gentlemen's agreement with BMW.

if potential buyers are having a hard time chosing between the new E55 to a m5... then mercedes has failed.

I'm not trying to undermine the E but coming out fresh and still not being able to fully safisfy buyers against the m5 (which is many yrs old) then there's a problem.

If it cant beat the m5 now (and i dont mean performance wise) then how will it hold up against the NEXT gen m5?? Either the reputation of the m5 is too solid to beat or buyers are dumb.

i would have thought that this e55 would have been unanimously chosen as The One (or atleast for now)

whats this about a gentlemen's agreement?

correct me if im wrong but MB hasnt employed the FI across the line, only in the high end S (TT V12? / S/C V8) CL (S/C V8) and SL (S/C V8) classes. i beleive the E is N/A hence why it makes 30 less HP than the 498 HP SL55 and CL55.

o yeah, and i dont think they couldnt beat BMW, the E500/430 make more HP than a 540i, its fairly even at that level across the board.

ItalianStallion - I should have been clearer ... my comments are directed towards MB's AMG and BMW's M division. If s/c technology is the way to go, why did it take AMG this long to put one under the hood? I wonder if it was "wink wink" between the two adversaries - until now.

Also, the E55 is s/c, like many of the AMG models thus the kompressor nomenclature. Impressive performance regardless of how they acheive it.

I'm undecided on BMW's M5/M3/M6/M4/etc response. Do they match the s/c or continue to battle with a big, lower internal friction, higher efficiency n/a engine?

ONE WORD: D O P E

For me, there's no comparison, I'd take the Benz over the Bimmer anyday, because the Benz is just that much better looking. I love the style of the new E's, and I think that AMG does a great job with doing exterior styling on their models...enough to make a difference, but not too much to draw unecessary attention (esp. from 5-0)...I mean, who couldn't love those Quad Tail Pipes?

Sign me up and Give me $80g's...75 for the car, and 5 for rims and tints!!

I'd have to drive 'em to make up my mind. If I had to pick without a test drive, then I think I'd go with the Benz cuz it looks so tight. But I gotta say, the way the Germans are acting these days we probably ought to be boycotting their cars!
