Dyno: Be Afraid, Very Afraid!
You get a cookie if you can tell me which car this dyno came from.
1) The car is stock.
2) It has a 5spd transmission.
3) Its a 2001 model year.

Soooo.... why should we be afraid?? Same HP, and a little more Torque than an A5 CL-S???
Wait until we see a 6 speed dyno... you should compare Manual vs. Manual right??
I'm not afraid!

I've always been impressed with the transmission efficiency on BMW 328/330s. The ZF unit is very good.
This car has a 11.3% hp loss and only a 6% torque loss to the wheels. Not bad. I wonder if a UUC flywheel would improve that

Happy CL-S Pilot
It has at least 15 lbft of more torque but the redline is lower than Type-S, So, if we add a only RES-like mod.... we will look better
But add CAI, RES and Headers we would look way better

Is the transmission really that efficient or could it be that BMW is under rating their engines?
Take the S2000 for example. Is their ANY reason why Honda would put a crappy manual in that car? When is the last time you saw a stock S2000 dyno 210hp at the wheels? The stock S2000 dyno charts (dyno jet) I remember seeing were b/w 195-205hp.
I just find it amazing that an engine rated for 225 is putting down right at 200hp at the wheels.
Now lets get some 6spd CL-S's dyno'd so we can have a good comparison!

Take this for example:
This is a 2000 328Ci, top line is CAI, bottom is stock. The 328s have the same transmission as 330s.
Stock, this car has a loss of 10.3% hp and 8.7% torque. Not bad at all.

Wow... that's pretty nice for a 328!
I wonder what is happening at 4,000 rpms in the BMW engine.
I've notice that dip occurs about the same RPM on both the 330 and the 328.

But, the 2.8L and 3L BMW I-6s are very torquey and have a very smooth powerband.
