Hello members,

I have just bought my wife a 3.2CL type s with nav and I am dying to know if anyone has tried modifing the existing DVD based nav to play DVD movies? I am amlost positive that it would play dvd roms, but I wasnt sure about actual DVD movies.

any advice is always appreciated.

There has to be an easier way. I mean, all of the components are there that an actual DVD based system has. The DVDs that run the nav are dvd rom based. Has anyone tried a ripped DVD in their NAV?

the DVD rom for the nav has a program inside to ONLY read the DVD nav stuff. you cannot make it read normal CD's or other DVD's beyond the nav's software

you can only use the nav's display as your own display for some other kind of input.

sorry, that's the way it is.

actually, there is an easier way, but more expensive. just buy a brand new head unit that'll play dvd's. and there you go. and you don't have to worry about the fm modulator.

Actually it is worth the drive, for anyone on this side of the Mississippi, plus you get a short vacation to the nice Bay area.

lnuxhakr, yes it can be done, it's not simple, but it is an easy concept (based on what you'll learn here). I'm playing VCD music videos, DVD movies, even SVCD using a portable DVD player watching them on my stock Navi, passenger side visor, and a backseat screen, thanks to Streeteffectz ; you might want to do some searching in the Electronic forum; all of the answers to any question you might have is there. Hope this helps.

Ok bud, follow this link to everything you need to know about the DVD on my Navi upgrade. To make a long story short you need to get a converted box that has been continued and is hard to find in order to convert the signal from a dvd player (or any video source for that matter) to an acceptable format to use on the navi screen.
