Dual exhaust possible?

I've neem reading into how the exhausts work. Food for thought, on the rear pipe coming off the headers, couldn't that be cut and flipped, than instead of doing a single 4" exhaust do a dual 2" or a dual 1 3/4 running all the way back

How did you misspell "been" into "neem?"

Either way, that custom method is possible, but you the ECU will be confused. It only reads from 1 O2 sensor.

the B and N are right beside each other...

Anyrays, after the cat, you could split it into two smaller lines going back, but it'll be very tight to get two pipes there. Also i single 4" would be way too large.

I lol'd at "anyrays".

Its entirely possible, but it will weigh more. You also need to have a X or H pipe to equalize the flow. Dealing with the O2s will be an issue as well. Ive thought about it, but I dont think its worth the headache.

I did this with my accord.

It can be done as long as a y-pipe is involved. However, you will lose back pressure. I have also found that when you put a dual exhaust on a car that is meant to have a single exhaust, you will have a harder time making sure that both exhausts sit at the same height. I had three different shops do my exhaust, and none of them got it perfect.

So what's the advantage of a dual exhaust over a properly sized single exhaust?

No engine needs backpressure. NA engines need exhaust velocity. Two different things. The main objective is to get rid of any restriction and at the same time keep the exhaust velocity up.

This has got to be the most misunderstood subject in the automotive world.

Probably the only advantage is looks. I can't see any other advantage past that

I noticed you have an 8G Accord 4cyl.

When you say you installed a dual exhaust, do you mean you just had an additional muffler installed on the driver side?

If so, we already have a dual outlet exhaust. I think what the OP wants is to run one pipe for each cylinder bank.

I fully plan on doing dual when my new motor goes in (with a proper H or X pipe. Right now i have a in one out 2 muffler as my Y pipe where the cat was (this pic was during mockup)

I had no noticable low end loss in power but the upper end you could feel the gains from it. I ran 2.25 all the way back

And getting them to fit evenly was simple.

^ Doing the one-into-two resonator would be the easiest way to do it, as you dont have to get creative with the O2 sensors.
