You're not the first person I've heard mention this as a problem, so I'm not saying it doesn't exist, it was your description of the problem that had me confused 'wiping off of the paint' sounded like a peeling issue.
I also thought you were insinuating that this has something to do with the materials used for the bumper rather than the paint quality. That didn't make much sense to me; its urethane just like every other car out there. I really think the Z's bumper gets chipped alot because of the perpendicular angle of the bumper in relation to the road...the point of impact absorbs 100% of an object's impact with very minimal deflection. I also don't use my Z as a daily driver, so I'm also not in the bumper to bumper commute where these chips normally happen. Sucks about your dad's Z, has Nissan done anything to try and resolve the problem for him?

also this pro paint and body guy told me that both honda and nissian uses pretty soft urethane material that it is why they chip and peel so easily. He said the paint does not stick well on our cars and nissians were the worst! reason is because to reduce weight and cost.
i have noticed that most of the bigger chips are located right under the headlight...

Why is it that some of you act like that the few of us that have gone the way of the Z never even owned a CL? I did, for two years. You know what I remember about my CL-S's interior... oh, that's right, I've COMPLETELY forgotten about my CL-S because of my Z.
An interior is an interior. Some may be better designed than others, but it's all the same PLASTIC. I guarantee from personal experience the my Acura leather was MUCH cheaper compared to my still inferior (read: non-German) Z leather.
If you get your kicks from telling yourself how wonderful and luxurious your $32K interior is, then fine. You will NEVER know the thrill of kicking your tail-end out in a full-on powerslide like I will in my Z. THAT is what makes me forget about even owning the CL-S.
This bitch has a presence that my CL-S NEVER had, even in the killer, Sundance Gold (that I still love) paint job.

2. Ride Quality - You mean "floaty". Yeah, I miss that.
I'm going even STIFFER with a full NISMO S-Tune suspension kit w/sways.3. Stereo - OK, I'll give you that. The stereo "upgrade" I paid for is a pathetic piece of shit. I'm still fighting Nissan on that one.
4. Quiet cabin - Who gives a fuck? It's a SPORTS car. The CL-S was no Lexus LS430.
"touch of everything=CL-S" except for RWD and actual track proven performance, huh?

The base Z is $26,809 MSRP. Other than leather, the interior does not get any better than a 27k car. What do you people expect? The last gen NA Z cost more than that 7 years ago. Let alone the 42k twin turbo. At MSRP the 350Z is a great deal. IMHO the touring is overpriced, to close to a g35c.
The quality that Nissan has left from 1994 to now, sucks.

My wife's 99 Honda, on the other hand, has already cost us about 1,000 extra dollars for a bad ABS and bad gas gauge.
But I'm sure I'm the exception, right? That tranny problem of Honda's is just a fluke, right?
I'm not saying Honda's are garbage, but come on, are they that far above any auto maker in terms of quality at this point?

I just felt for the 30k I spent, I got a better value than the G35c. To each his own though.. That's why they make them both.

The Z doesn't have any more power than the G35 does. Dyno Proven.

Even the dealer said the 6spd 4 door would be 28k.
www.gunnauto.com under Infiniti. They are the ones who sell them here.
1) I sat in the Z, and hte CL-S seats are more supportive. I doubt a manufacutre can beat Recaro seats that are stock in the CL-S.

This was 2-3 months ago it was marked for that.
Even though they are out of coupes again, but the lowest sedan is 30k.
Lets see here. There are MANY build quality problems since 1995 that Nissan got cheap on. Too many to list on every car. So I won't. The G35 has cheap materials compared to its competition. It may not have problems right now, but its not built with the best quality stuff.

As for the seats, the side bolstering wasn't as good for holding you in as the Z's, but was definitely more comfortable than the Z IMO, along with having an adjustable lumbar. The stock suspension is softer on the CLS, and therefore the Z is louder inside ( also due to the 18's)and has a rougher ride. I would say the CLS is a more comfortable commuter car, and the Z is a better sports car but to compare each directly and say that one is 'better' than the other is impossible; they're two diff. cars designed with 2 different purposes in mind. The Z is a purpose built sports car, while the CL is a more comfortable every day driver/touring coupe with some respectable performance aspects built in. Both cars have trade offs due to their intended purpose. I was looking for a pure sports car, and that's what I got with the Z.

I pull facts dumbass newbie. Look under your seat on the rails. It says Recaro, oh but you don;'t have the car thats right. Then leave Troll.
Lets see here...
CL-S has nav, heated seats, heated side mirrors, a rear seat and room for storage in the rear. Oh yeah, it seats them comfortably, and has better resale.
Z has only got better power by a hair, and defintely better handling. But thats all its got over the CL-S. The CL-S handles and has awesome power with all the other features included. Overall its a better car for the consumer. The Z is a good car for the person looking only into performance.

No, Nissan/Infinitis have never had good resale. So get that through your thick head. The Acuras will always have better resale. I got 24k on my CL-S after 1 year and 14000 miles. And I bought it for 27k. 24k was trade in as well. I have owned many Nissans in the past, and The Maxima is the car that would be the most resale value in the line up to hold its value, and it loses 12k the 1st year off its PRICE!
34k for a CL-S, you got ripped my friend.

Don't even give me this bullshit about re-sale. Do a fucking search on re-sale going back to late 2000/early 2001 for ALL of the posts about shitty re-sale.
OK, not to add anymore fuel to the fire, but shouldn't resale be based on what the STICKER of the car was, not OTD or what you personally paid?
You have to keep things consistent; i.e. price, when talking about resale. Unless you want to add another resale category, that being "personal resale".
Unless to drive a fuggin' Ferrari, you're gonna take a hit in ANY car if you sell it in the first year or two. Bitchin about resale in a couple more years, when these cars have been around longer.

I wasn't bitching about the re-sale on the CL-S considering what a notorious POS rep it had at the time with failing trannies. Rather I was just getting on Silverbullet's case about his bullshit rationale that the CL will have MUCH HIGHER re-sale than the Z.
People are foaming at the mouth to pick up a pre-owned Z. Can the same be said for a CL?

I wasn't bitching about the re-sale on the CL-S considering what a notorious POS rep it had at the time with failing trannies. Rather I was just getting on Silverbullet's case about his bullshit rationale that the CL will have MUCH HIGHER re-sale than the Z.
People are foaming at the mouth to pick up a pre-owned Z. Can the same be said for a CL?

Maxima fully loaded, 27-28k, 1 year later worth 15k.
Altima 18k new 2001 version, 1 year later, 9k.
Sorry but Nissans Resale sucks and your Z will also. The CL has a better resale than Nissna period. It may not be the best on Acuras scale, but its still better.
