Exclamation dropped on coilovers..are bumpy roads a problem?

those with coilovers.....does it mess up our cars in the long run when u keep hitting the bumpy roads??? im driving in the city and theres holes left and right...so i can only dodge so many! i feel like my cars gonna fall apart compared to my old setup with springs and shocks.....does anyone use their coilovers for daily commute in the city or anywhere with messed up roads?

when im hitting the driveways....im scraping going up and off of them.....hurts everytime! i left less then a pinky gap space btw...

I drive city, but the roads aren't too bad. If you're that low, then that's sort of what you get. It's going to be stiffer and you're going to feel every bump much more. You need to perfect the art of driveway entering/exiting. Go into them and out of them at severe angles. You'll scrape less.

The lower you go, the less travel your suspension has to absorb bumps, not to mention your control arms and balljoints are closer to hitting your inner fenders. You may want to think about raising your car a little bit, yes I said it

thx for the answers... raising it for now i guess would be out of the question as i just lowered it, maybe later lol. so the higher i go, the less stiff it would be?? i was thinking of reinstalling my old setup (shocks/springs) later down the road if i get sick of the bumpy ride

the scraping issues arent bad for me..i can handle those... its just driving through the city theres constant uneven road (san francisco).....so im just hoping its not gonna shake my car loose..other then that i dont mind the bumpy ride

After driving a Trans Am that hugged the ground with a full lip kit, I got used to being low to the ground and avoiding road issues. Once I slammed my CL I also got used to it, just have to watch pulling in and out of driveways as well as speedbumps which are now my mortal enemy even without my lip kit on the CL yet. But I live in the pothole capital of the world and like diddy said it's just part of the territory, you just have to be far more aware of your suroundings and road conditions. But hell I even watch for potholes and uneven pavements in my 4Runner (DD), it's just habbit especially since tires for it cost so damn much

yea coils are alot stiffer than your last set-up... and reading from the other thread you posted in you have the NEX coils which isnt soft/stiffness adjustable... so you will feel alot of bumps

Depends how low you go.. Mine is set where I don't have clearance issues unless the car is loaded. Maybe I'm too old to appreciate the "slammed" look anymore

Get something with adjustable dampening and a less aggressive spring rate if you plan on doing more street than track use, you'll thank yourself in the long run.

I was actually going to get KSports before I got a hookup on the Teins. Definitely a good deal, you'll like them.

Yea I'm dropped on nex coilovers. I know my territory pretty well, but the broken roads are unavoidable here in san Francisco. Does the coilovers with dampers make that much of s difference? My main question was mainly if the cl will be ok driving on bumpy roads constantly. The bumpy ride does not affect me personally, I'm just concerned about wear and tear of the car.

Super Sports.. I think they ride amazing for coilovers, as good as my stock setup (albeit the stock setup had 100k miles at the time). Definitely ride better than my 240sx did with Eibachs/Adjustable KYBs, and MUCH better than any other car with coilovers that I've been in (granted those cars were more tuned for track use so not really a fair comparison)

The dampening adjustment makes quite a difference IMO. On a stiffer setting I find myself bottoming out less often on dips, while still not being harsh. I have not maxed out the setting in either direction as of yet, maybe this summer if I get bored. I do wish they had slightly stiffer springs though.
