Driving impression with Konis

Whats up guys, while installing fog lights on my car I notice that the plastic cover protecting our engines had scratches on it. I dont remember hitting a bump oranything, the only thing I can think of is bottoming out after a bump. Has anybody have any similar experience with Comptech springs and stock shocks. I think its from these fawking stock shocks, who ever said these should be used with lowered springs? My question is to all of u with the Konis yellows do u still bottom out after a bump? How stiff is the ride compared to POS stock shocks? Where is the cheapest place to get? And about how much to install? Thanks guys for the info, Im really pissed because I should of done this when I got the springs. Now I have to pay again for the same fawking labor, which somebody would of told me before.

well, i luanched my car on a railroad crossing about 15-20 feet and landed pretty smoothly except for a slight thud sound. afterward my brand new, two week old headers have a nice dent in them and scratches, plus the front tow hooks are bent, and have tons of scratches on the subframe and other things under the car

everything is just fine, just all scratched up from the landing.

i have comptech springs and stock shocks. i landed perfectly level too

(i was evading a CHP crusier, and won. not kidding either, i had a friend riding shotgun who can prove the story to anybody :P , plus i already told the story to the local CL club guys )

i thought my story would make you feel better :P

(and i only gave barely gave you the cliffs notes version too )

in case your interested:

was doing 120 on the highway. flew by a CHP cruiser just chilling on an onramp. just as i saw him, my buddy and i both said "shit!" took my foot off the gas for a few moments which brought me from 120-90 in only a few moments, and JUST in that few seconds i said out to my friend "there is that sunol exit up ahead over the hill and i CAN make it." before i finished my sentence he yelled "GO!" so i floored it while looking in my rearview mirror at the CHP cruiser starting to get on the freeway with his lights on (the distance between us from me doing 120 and him at a standstill was quite a bit for him to catch up to).

well, the exit i was talking about is just on the other side of the hill. so i took the exit flying down the slalom that it is, and blew through the stop sign making a left on the road. now, i've jumped these tracks a dozen times in rental cars, and my buddies truck by never in my car. i would NEVER jump that shit in my car , BUT, i was evading this cop and kinda had to. the railroad tracks kinda go up a very slight embancment, which i hit at 65mph and launched my car a good 15-20 feet before landing ever so softly and level. then blew through the next stop sign and hid in some residential area.

i've jumped the tracks at 80mph before in rentals and other things before, so i was pretty confident. ONE of the rentals i had got damaged tho. i took the jump too slow and the front end went WHAM! i tore a hole in the tranny pan. so we just unbolted it, cleaned the fluid, and JB welded the puncture, bolted it back on , re-fill, and returned to enterprise the next day

so my headers got a nice dent in them and scratched up. and the underbody of my car is pretty scratched too, along with the bent tow hooks.

well anyway, i have a ton of stories like that.

oh, and NEVER buy a rental car

Thats insane Jeff!!!

I know you aren't bullshitting, cuz a friend of mine back home when we were in high school ALWAYS ran from the cops. He'd do whatever it took to get away too, and they NEVER caught him! LOL!

Koni Yellows -- ride definitely feels stiffer at 1/2 turn. But I love the feel and the awesome CL seats make even long journeys no worse for wear with Konis.
Cheapest place to get that I've found is ACP.com. They are like $286 a pair, so you are looking at $600. I still think well worth it.
No bottoming out yet in my CL with Konis, and I do like to drive "spirited" whenever possible.
No fawking cool jumps like TypeSDragoon had, but I few possibilities around town.
Umm, you'll feel the car "rise and fall" more with the Konis, but to me, that makes the car more in tune with the road. And I've never bottomed out like I said with Konis, HR OE fronts, and CT Rears.
Hope this helps.

The KONI YELLOWS are a must!!!! I never bottom out, and I have hit a few railroad tracks!!! I have mine set pretty stiff in the front and it helps a lot. It can be a bumpy ride sometimes, but I never worry about bottoming out!!!!!

GET THEM!!!

I did the same shiet when I was 22. I had just bought a 90 Eclipse GSX. I was showing it off to one of my friends. I took it up to Hayward Blvd which is pretty twistie. The speed limit is 25!! I was doing about 75 when I passed a sherrif sitting on the side of the road!!!! I did exactly what you did Jeff, I took my foot off the gas and looked in the rear view mirror. His lights were on and he was just pulling onto the road. I looked forward and saw some twisties coming up!! I thought, no way he catches me through those!!! I got AWD!!!!!! So I smash the gas and FLY through the twisties, I ran a stop sign that I had to go against oncoming traffic to get around the 4 or 5 cars that were sitting there!! I made a couple of quick left turns and hid!!!!!!!! I never saw him go by. My buddy looked at me, and he was in shock, and said DAYUM, your car is fast!!! You just out ran a cop!!!!!

I have NEVER done anything so stupid again!!!!!! WTF was I thinking!!!!!

ACP sells them for $279 fronts and $279 rears. They are expensive, but worth every penny imho.

www.optauto.com has them listed for $168 for the rear and for the front. I don't know if this if for ONE SHOCK OR FOR A PAIR!!!! Call them or email them to find out!!!!! This seems a little low for a pair, and very high for just one!!!! They are listed under Honda Accord 98 - 02. You can check on the AV6 board, they are at www.v6accord.com they might have a group buy going or someone over their might have some for sale. You can try and PM blxmjx. He has some connections. ACP has a good price, but it can be beat if you look around. Good Luck!!

Could be...miata konis are $80/shock tho.

I think they are for a pair...as the previous price was $224.

Wow Dragoon that's fockin' hilarious. Sucks about the headers though. Probably lost a lot of the performance gain because of that dent.
