Drivers seat.......Wont recline!!!!!
Guys,
I need some insight! I have a 01' CL-S, and my girlfreind put my drivers side seat up when she drove a few times, and it would stick, and then go back to normal position. now the damn thing is stuck in the upright position........and advice how to manually set this back till I can get it into the shop?

I had this happened to mine at least few times. I just kept moving the switch back and forth until it started to move backward. Does your seat recline forward? If so, you might want to take a chance and recline it a bit forward, and then try to recline it backwards. My switch got stuck once like that, but now its working fine.
It it does not help, get ready for the rape by the dealer.... its about $700....

if you get an ETM and a power tester, it wouldn't be that hard to figure out what the problem is. Could just be a fuse or the motor could be bad. Who knows. Goodluck

I had the same issue a while back. What I did was lift the 'side handle' used to get into the back seat. Let the seat slide all the way forward. Then, with some extra force 'click' the seat-back into the upright position. After the seat slides back I was able to recline the seat again...

If I let it slide forward and then just push it back, it sometimes will not return to it's pre-set position. If I firmly, but not forcefully push the back of it til it clicks it works great. I don't have to let it go all the way forward. Just lift the handle, let the seat move forward a little and push it back til it clicks.
Hopefully this works.

Mine makes a clicking sound as it remains in one position. A quick trip to the dealer and a $450 estimate to fix! Motor reportedly was bad. That does not make sense as the motor works, but some metal bar is broke. I know as I removed the seatback and went on a search & destroy mission. Decided to do the scrapyard thing figuring another seat would be as easy as a dealer rip off, err...repair.
So far no luck finding a seat!

One Fly CL solved my problem. He was spot on with the solution. I unbolted the seat, listened for the click, zeroed in, removed the plastic cover.
I found the gear cluster that spins to rotate the seat back backward / forward and removed the three bolts that secure it to the seat frame.
Off the seat and tested- it workewd fine. So much for the bullshit Dealer assertion - it needed a new $450 motor.
One whack to the seat back frame, where it met a mate wheel - and the seat works as good as new!
Congrats for spot on CL advise!

I had this happen a few times, at first I used to take apart the plastic to expose the gears, then I set a flat head screw driver on the gear, then hit it with a hammer while the switch is being mpressed, that got it out of the jam. But lately, i just get in and if wifey gets it all stuck again, I lean back on it real hard while pressing the switch, feels like it's gonna break, but then it lossens up and moves again, but you have to lean back HARD.

Whats up with RDX owners?

Its the big gear that the motor connects to. Use a screwdriver to break it loose and then grease them.

Like civicdrivr said...IT IS NOT THE MOTOR (IF YOU HEAR ANY NOISE WHEN YOU PRESS THE BUTTON. IT IS THE LARGE GEAR THAT IS STUCK. I TOO TOOK A SCREW DRIVER AND UNHINGED THE GEAR THEN LUBED IT. ITS NOT HARD TO DO AT ALL. ALL U NEED IS A SCREWDRIVER...EASY FIX

Seat stuck in my 03cl-s
Hey guys. I know, what a pain. I took the whole seat out turned it upside down on a table and started disassembling. Took the side plastic cover off and saw the big gear that was mentioned in previous posts. Actually there is 2 side by side. I found if I lube them between the two sandwiched gears together and the did the screwdriver on the gear teeth and the flat blade screwdriver between the gears and tapped with a hammer it finally would/did loosen up. bear in mind I did run power to the seat recline motor to test all this while the seat was on table. Also reversing polarity to motor help to facilitate movement/lube infusion.
Hope this helps.

My passanger seat got stock it goes back an forward but the recline system won't move, I just heard a click. After I saw your coments i decieded to remove the side panel to check the motor, I had a apoiment next day with the mechanic to fix it so I just didn't wanna be ripped off. After I removed the side panel took off three screws that holds the motor then I released it and press the botton back and forward. It worked fine. Then I heard to hit the gear with a hammer, but I was afraid to damage the gear so idecided just to spray wd40 around the gear and put it back together.... Same day at night I was giving a ride to a friend of mine, and sundenly he was adjusting the position of the seat!!!! Nice just spraing wd40 around the gear works great.

02 CL type S driver seat recliner
I followed the advice of several people who used the old hammer and screw driver technique to free up the gear for the driver seat recliner. Almost assumed that the motor was bad. I pulled the motor/gear assembly and pushed the button. It worked fine so I new the gear was stuck. Seat is working again now after a lot of lube and banging the gear while the button was depressed. Brilliant! There is a lubricant called break free with Teflon in it. I used some of that so hopefully, the gear will stay free.

All these threads out here are about reclining. What about if the seat reclines but WON'T slide backward or forward..tried forcing it no luck...No motor noise nothing happens at all...But the recline works
What then?

Dang thats a lot of problems listed ITT. Come to think of it the seller of my car is basically the same height as me and I have never adjusted the driver seat, so I have no idea if it actually works. The passenger seat goes back automatically when incline it forward to use the back seat.

when it comes to the CL it's got remote switches that are in the radio so if you swap out your radio so on and so forth your trunk your seat all that will not work if you don't hook up those memory wires just keep that in mind
