Dragon Intake Humming

I just installed the Weapon R Dragon Intake for my CL-S. The install went smoothly and quickly, but once I put everything back and started the car up, the car started humming VERY loudly. I mean, so loud it started giving me a headache standing next to it.

Is this normal? Is there anything I can do to make this go away?

Any thoughts/ideas would be greatly appreciated

when i got my Comptech mufflers, i also had the resonator removed (which is the thingy after the CAT). the exhaust note on my car is so LOW i love it! it's pretty loud but you get used to the low/loudness of it.

but in the morning, my car is parked in the garage all the time, i start my car to warm it up, and it has an electrical thing to make it WARM up quickly by keeping the RPM's at a higher leve then IDLE, but in my garage, the higher RPM makes the exhaust loud and it reverbs alot LOL but sounds awesome

so your humming might have just been cuz your car was cold, the noise dies down when it's warmed up

Thanks for the info, but it definitely does not have anything to do with the car being cold. It makes the noise no matter what. I remember reading about replacing the foam filter with a K&N to reduce the harmonic resonance. Is it worth the investment?

You need to replace the foam filter with the k&n filter. It does help alot with the humming. It will still hum though. I know from experience, thats what i had to do with my cl-s. But I was so happy with the sound it produced at vtec that I just lived with it.

in my experience, i purchsased my compteech mufflers the day after i had my resonator taken off. so basically, i had a stock CLS wihtout the resonator and man, that sounded like shit throught the stock exhaust! it made such a loud rasping sound!!! so for 24 hours, i had to drive around like that! but then i got my mufflers, put them on, and DAMN, it sounded sick as hell. VERY low bass sound! and its louder than normal because of the resonatro being gone, but they sound PERFECT! no rasps or nothing, just bass!

Cusdaddy,
Make sure that you check all the connections on the intake. I have the AEM and if there is any hint of a break in the vacum for the intake (like that rubber gasket is not secure) then you will get the noise.

i know of people with the dragon on 1st & 2nd gens.. the dragon just hums louder than any other, yes changing the filter will help, but not by much... The aem units rae much quieter and give more of a hiss than a hum... IT IS NORMAL however and sooner than later it will become music to your ears!!!

Code3Smith: Thanks for the info. I have a quick question. What K&N filter should be used? Also, what is the approximate price?

that humming is from the ghetto short ram...
J/k (moomaster_99)

get the cold air ram intake from weaponR and it will quiet down some.... see pix from the NorCal meet and see moomaster_99 fast cl (in ricer tone) with the WeaponR shortram with ram cold air intake.

It helps for 2-5 horses...
