Drag Racing at NED (16/04/2003)

The night was cold at 44-48F and we had some showers starting at 9:30 PM ending the event.

The place at NED was packed, and the timing lights computer broke down for a good 45min-1hr.

1) Traction was bad on my 2yrs old Nittos. I was spinning real bad and no hops (it means I can't get traction). Tires felt like glass not rubber. PSI was from 28 down to 26 on the fronts.
2) I used gate shifting on all runs.
3) No spare tire, no trunk carpet, but I forgot the jack and its tools there....

I had 4 runs:

Time 6:48PM
Temp 47F
FTs 28PSI

R/T 0.729
60' 2.586 (BAD)
330 6.555
1/8 9.744 @ 76.90
1000 12.530
1/4 14.878 @ 96.15

Time 7:06PM
Temp 46F
FTs 26PSI

R/T 0.374 (Red light!)
60' 2.477 (Still BAD)
330 6.442
1/8 9.648 @ 76.20
1000 12.450
1/4 14.813 @ 95.80

Time 7:54PM
Temp 48F
FTs 26PSI

R/T 0.698
60' 2.396 (Better)
330 6.608 (spinned on the second gear shift and almost lost control)
1/8 9.8.72 @ 75.59
1000 12.699
1/4 15.077 @ 95.14

Time 9:36PM
Temp 47F
FTs 26PSI

R/T 0.934
60' 2.393 (Better still high)
330 6.349
1/8 9.550 @ 76.63
1000 12.349
1/4 14.709 @ 95.67

Yo Nashua:

Congrats on 14.7!!! I'd take that!

Here is one way to bring time down to 13.9.
Found this on BMWM5.com

Have a great one!

96mph traps w/out headers arent bad at all...i would say you could see at least 2mph increase with the headers....and if you're ballsy enough, get a 75 shot and probably get 7mph more...not bad times though with the sloppy 60's.....

Zooting, I have headers... on the same setup, same crappy tires, I did straight 14.7s last time. I was looking for mid-low 14s... Bulldog01 did 14.4 and my CLS dyno higher than his CLS by few lbft/WHP.

It seems that Nittos tires would get like glass on cold nights and the stock tires holds well (stay soft) at those temperatures.. They are all-season after all.

I need new tires for sure...

Scalbert: Date format... Ah... Canadian habit does not go away

Yes, I dynoed my CLS with the headers and I gained 4 WHP 4 lbft over the obx headers... and the best thing no more resonance sound.

Check sig for the link to the dyno.

performance tires in 45 degree weather = little traction.
