pgatour1,

i agree with you 100%...it's neither one or the other, but both and even that's a guesstimate.

certain car's on deadly's list will beat us 90% of the time with drivers who SUCK, but unless he's raced every single one of those cars like 5 times each for statistical accuracy (including every v8 mercedes has to offer), then it's as bad as basing which car is going to win directly out of your monthly motortrend/car&driver/etc.

I agree 100%, but if were gonna keep this forum useful, we need to be a little more realistic.

Again, I think if someone beat these cars, the guy had stuff in the trunk.

And a 328 manual with sports package can beat a CL-S. In fact, if you guys remember the review from Motor Trend the AUTO 328 was i think .2 seconds slower than a CL-S. I am pretty confident with a manual 328, your gonna be ahead of a CL-S.

With those that say they have beat these cars, I am telling you guys, the person did not know how to drive, or he had bodies in the trunk.

TypeR i know, i stayed head to head with a Type R up to 60, but i am assuming there would be someone that might be a better driver than him..plus his car was stock, (he says) so i was really not sure about the Type R..

I was beat by a 540 that was Auto and had 4 people in it and was on Snow tires. I was with 1 friend, and stock tires. I was beat good too.

I love the CL-S, but for the right reasons.

</font>
Wrong on the 328 auto.Motor Trend had it at 7.1 compared to the CL-S at 6.4.A previous test in the september issue of the $42,230 328i sport was 6.9
i KNOW,more mag racing, but these are numbers from the same magazine. If you're gonna compare you've at least got to go with the same source.
I'll be more concerned with the 330.

Thank you, And that is the point everyone is missing. That is the only way we can compare cars. And it is pretty accurate. More accurate than the various varities of drivers you will find on the road.

Yeah I have read those numbers too. I was giving Bimmer drivers the benefit of the doubt. The absolute Best a 328 manual can do is 6.7 and that still doesn't come close to our average. the 330 the only one I would be scared of is a manual Ci which has been clocking in between 5.8-6.1
Put headers on your CL-S and you'll be right along side of him till about 100 I would say.

this is what i know...i know i had a full tank in my cl-s, i know my cousin was pushing it (he was in auto and so was i w/ vsa on), i know the car didn't have any winter tires in the trunk, and i know he's about 10 lbs lighter than me, and it was from a stop (on a 35mph bridge, but everyone drives 60mph+...shawn S, you probably know what i'm talking about: 378N-hill to hill bridge i think it's called), and i let off at 70ish and so did he. so i can say up to 70ish i'm a head by like a foot or so...that's what happened. as for mag racing, motortrend's time for the '00 s500 is 6.5 and the cl-s 6.4...oh shit, real life experience concurs with what a magazine says!

but we all know that even if experience concurs with recorded data, none of this can stand up to deadly's,

I toasted a nsx !!!. I pulled out of park ave acura, spinning my tires down the street, must have had 6 car lengths on it by the time I hit 2nd, left it sitting in the showroom

With all the stat racing going on here, we don't even have to race anyone on the street. Keep a file folder next to you. At a light if someone wants to race, just hand them a stat sheet showing they don't have a chance, flash your hazards, and go merily on your way.

race, race, race... can all the cars just get along, and make the world a better place????!!!!

nahhhhhhhh... I freaking almost lost to a modded VW Jetta VR6 (i posted the story before)...

now I am waiting to race with my friends' cars on race track, not on streets: 3000GT(hmmm, not sure), 330ci(might lose), 325xi(hmmm... should be easy), S4(forget about it)

gotta say, our 4th gear is just useless...

I have taken 2 E430s, one from 10-60, the other from 40-90. I can pull with a stick 330i from 60-100, but below or above the 330i pulls me badly. A S4 blew me away on the fwy, from 60 up.

I got a good one. CL-S vs 5.9 limited grand cherokee (6.8 0-60 motortrend)(KN FIPK takes off about .3 sec) I'll race my girlfriend once in my jeep and then we'll switch cars. Then well go up to the Catskills and see which car can run the trails better. hehehe

The 5.9 is nothing to mess with. Granted we would still beat a stock one that thing is a beast. My mom had one about 3 years ago. Man 0-30 I believe was 2.0 secs. Whatever it was it nailed you to your seats it snapped your neck back when you floored it. What a great car. Too bad they didn't make a new beast like that with all the new interior features and look of the 2000 and 2001.
How much did the K&N FIPK cost.

For those that HAVE beat these cars, I am not calling anyone a liar, just letting you know they had their winter/summer rims in the trunk....and the car was heavy.

Sorry, but if the perfect driver drives these cars, they will beat our CL-s.

Our cars are great, but sometimes people tend to overestimate their cars, probably cause they worked really hard to be able to afford it, and it makes them feel better.

If you guys have a chic beside you, and wanna impress her...dont think cause someone on this board said they beat a 540, dont race when with your a chic, cause if the other cars trunk is empty, you will be embarrassed.

If there are conditions, it would apply to BOTH cars, .. wind/temperature would affect BOTH cars, not just the CL-S..sorry, its just that I raced a manual 328 today, and he beat me by a VERY big margin..i was just pissed..

Gonna try to make it. Looks like I'll still have the Spyder as well. No luck dealing n the CL-S at the moment, so I might just wait for the 2002 and enjoy the ragtop for the summer. It's bone stock, so you should run pretty close to even, unless you're modded.

Very.. VERY incorrect...

I own both and have raced them from both sides a number of times. The CL comes ahead everytime. In truth, the 328i doesn't come close without a good launch. At speed I easily pull away.

It comes down to their specific intentions. The 328i manual w/ sport susp. outright handles much better. But the CL-S is quicker. Both brake about the same.

Actually no. I've clocked 6.3's in cold conditions. I can normally lay down mid 6.5's in the summer.

Conditions vary and so do drivers.

Drivers do constitute a variable. But so do the testing conditions. All mags do not test cars in the same ambient conditions. Most of the major sources are from Detriot where the temps can vary 70 - 80 degrees depending on the time of the year.

So, concurrent testing is the only valuable source. Testing two cars on different days yields nothing for comparison sake.
