Don't be scared...

Just a heads up to all you V8 Mustang "killers".... Be careful who you rev on. Some of us can actually drive our cars....

2003 Cobra
Full interior (Stock seats, radio, A/C)
Stock IRS
Stock bottom end
Stock heads/cams

Eaton -> KB Blower swap
Level10 Tranny
M/T ET Streets

10.06 @ 138.xx
Video here

Today, that same car w/ the same setup
9.99 @ 140mph
Will try to post video soon.

Looks like the 03 Cobra is going to take the Supra's place as the BPU King....

What track was that taken at?? It wasn't in Florida or Southern California as evidenced by the scenery but was still very warm.

Nice!

I'd say there's a pretty damn big difference between the GTs and the Cobras and Saleens. I wouldn't even look at the driver of something other than a V6 or a GT - you guys scare me.

That's fuckin' fast...but if givin' the choice, I would still take the CLS over the Cobra...even though the Cobra is a beast.

The guy lives in New Jersey. The 10.06 run was at Brandenton. The 9.99 was at Cecil...Wherever those are...

Not trying to flame b/c I do think the CL-S' are nice cars, but in all honesty, what does the CLS have over a 2003 Cobra? The Cobra has better seats, RWD, will turn many more heads, sounds better (IMHO), etc, etc... With basic mods (pulley, exhaust, chip, filter), some guys are seeing close to 500rwhp and are deep in the 11s. All with perfect street manners.

I understand you choosing the CL-S over, say, a GT, but how can you choose it over an under-rated stock 390 HP demon? BTW Cobras also make excellent open track cars stock...

i'm gonna go with 330 on this one, just because of my love for speed and the fact that i almost traded my car for one. And when i drove my friends who had 425 at the wheels i fell in love. but the seats in my CL-S are more comfortable.

To me the CLS has more sex appeal, if you want to call it that and still 260hp. Granted it's not 350hp or better, but it's enough for me. The CLS is more of a complete package than the Cobra. With a few thousand dollars in Mods, it seems you can get some pretty good speed out of the CLS and still have an understated, sexy beast.
Trust me...I am a torque and speed fan and know that for the money, the Cobra is hot.
BTW, the sound from the Cobra exhaust can not be beat.

Check out that amazing competition he's up against

Here's his car. (The 03 looks BADASS!):

He has the old V6 16" rims on the back w/ ET Streets (not Drags). He could go faster by going w/ a 15" rim and some Drags, but he is still using the stock IRS.

Although I prefer the looks of the Supra the new Cobra has a few thing on it when it comes to straight line acceleration runs.

First of all, Zootking's claim is over an '01 Cobra and a convertible at that. That is a totally different game than the '03 Cobra.

Also... what happened with the headlights and the supercharger belt??

Nice car, but I don't think I would ever buy one. Plus, IRS is a b*tch and a half to launch.

Never mind. I see that he removed the headlight to feed more air into the intake.

My buddy has a 2001 blown cobra (15 pounds) on a stock engine and that thing is badass. He has problems hooking up sometimes (with suspension upgrades), but when he does hook up- look out. The interior is decent, but its no acura.

I'll be out there in a few months maybe we could set something up. I got a Honda that just might give you a run for your money. We'll video it and post it here. I have raced a few modded cobras , won a few, lost a few. there great cars and it probably cost you a lot less than me to get in the nines. was it on street tires? Your car sounds outstanding.

That's not my car... I WISH it was, but I can't even afford gears... I'm stuck w/ a 13.1 sec 96 GT (Waiting on struts to install suspension and I should be in the 12s n/a). The guy w/ the 03 Cobra does occasionally go to the local street races but nobody wants to run him. I only know all this b/c he is on another board that I post on alot.

He was running ET Streets out back. Running to much pressure in them, but he can't lower it b/c he still has the stock IRS.

To offer to race a 9 second street car in your Honda, you must have quite a car. My hat is off to you
One question though. Can your Honda be driven in traffic on the streets?

Tell him he has a BEAUTIFUL car. I want one, but it snows here, I am thinking though, when the next one rolls out, I will get it, and just deal with it...I love those cars. 390HP...drool. Putting more on the ground that the Camaro guys have at the crank is NIIIICE! WTF happened to his headlight?

The headlight is pulled out to give it a "ram air" effect to the cone filter right behind it.

Yeah, like you said, the '03 Cobra does have more power and yada, yada, yada.

But it's more expensive than the CL-S. :p

Yeah, props to Ford to coming out with a supercharged Cobra as soon as the competition went away. Whoop-de-f*cking-do!

Why couldn't they do it while the F-body was around? Ever since the F-body vs. Mustang competition started, the F-body usually dominated over the 'Stang.

By coming out with a 390-hp supercharged Mustang right after the F-body went away, I guess it's Ford's way of saying "Get f*cked" to GM.

You're right there.
Let's compare apples to apples then.
Stock for stock the Cobra will destroy an S2000 and will walk a NSX w/ little difficulty. The S2000 is right around the same price range as the Cobra and the NSX was, what, $65K? Hell, a 2001 stock Cobra will bitch slap the S2000 in the 1/4...

Think about this... 5.7L (346ci) Camaro SS came stock with 320hp and 325tq. 4.6L (281ci) Cobra (99/01 n/a) came stock with 320hp and 317tq. Stock for stock it's a driver's race. I hate how people always compared the GT to the SS when the SS and the 99/01 Cobra where in the same price range.

Why mess with F-bods when you can kick the crap out of Z06s all day long. A $35K car humiliating a $60K 5.7L "super car" seems like more of a slap in the face to GM than anything.

I doubt you could if you wanted to. The first couple times you shit yourself from 400rwtq would be embarrasing when you got out of the car.

I haven't seen any laps times from the Cobra close to what a Z06 posts. Also, you are about $10k high on the Z06 price.

Straight line acceleration, the Cobra is better than the Z06. Obviously in the twisties, it wouldn't have the same outcome.

C'mon dude the Cobra and CL-S are TOTALLY different competition. But if you want to know something funny, in this months Car and Driver, they pitted the

3. Mustang Cobra
2. Infiniti G35 coupe
1. Mazda RX-8

And the lowly Wankel only 250hp Mazda won. Yes, the Cobra was the acceleration champ, bar NONE but it's ride and low rent interior killed it. The Infiniti has a very small backseat and though sporty was not as sporty as the RX-8 though the styling is spectacular. RX-8 was the sports car of the group.

Don't think so...........i got to race a couple of 03 Cobras and a couple Z06's in my 01 SS which ran 12.8@112 all day long......both times i slightly beat the Cobras...and both times i got beat by the Z06's......U may say driver error..but i got up to 130+mph on all my races.....so at that point ur not shiftin ne more...and a car will win cuz its faster...
Ne ways a stock cobra runs around a 12.9-13.1......@ the track...all the new 405 hp Z06 run around 12.4-12.7 with a good driver.
New stock ZO6's dyno about 347 RWHP...Cobras around 355rwhp.....but the Vette is over 500 lighter........its all weight to power

Considering the Cobra is now supercharged, It now qualifies for the getting it's butt handed to it by single turbo Supras.

J/K

S/C Cobras and Z06s are some of the fastest, best performing cars out there for the money. Great cars but even a S/C Comptech NSX can't hang in a straight line, nor a S2000.

But in the canyons, the twisties, that is where the S2000 and NSX shines.

330,

you cant compare a 99/01 cobra to a 99-02 ss or ws6, plain and simple the stang would get walked in an acceleration contest, those cobras were way overated in hp #'s
