Ok, first time in my CL-S that I got my ass handed to me. I normally don't race vets or any other rockets on the road but, for some reason I was compelled to mess with an S4.

Friday night, coming home from a late night at work, I saw a pair of Xenons on the highway coming up FAST. I was on the Garden State Parkway doing about 75 and I slowed down to 50ish so he could catch up. He pulls into the left lane next to me, first off, lowered, purple? (I think) and chrome blingin rims, the car looked SWEET. The two kids were no more than 18 and they were lookin to pound the salt outta me. So, I give the obligatory knod and slow down to around 30mph and then we launched together. We stuck together for what it seems to be around 50mph and then he pulled two car lengths on me EASY, I could hear those turbos whistling and they we smiling like little gremlins. We then tried some races from 80mph and 60mph results always the same. Those kids were a little crazy though doing at least 140mph winding out that S4 trying to get me up in that number range. I knew they would win, wanted to see how badly I would get creamed. Hmmmm, now maybe headers would close that gap to 11/2 car lengths but what difference would it make. Next time you see an s-4, bring a bottle....

 

2 cars only hmm.. the headers could of kept you a little closer.

I hate to say this but maybe the S4 I raced was modded, it was lowered so you know the guy that owned it was into mods. 2 car lengths and I ain't no chicken or newbie behind the wheel. I know how to launch my car and it made NO difference. Either my guy had mods or your guy can't shift.

 

The other guy only has a 1,000 miles on his car and has never dragged race before.

I have to let you guys in on a little secret...

Audi S4's are the shit! The guy may have done some work to his suspension. He may have even had a few other mods. But he would have kicked your ass in a bone stock S4. I would not recommend that any of you attempt to race an S4, as it will result in complete embarrassment. Nothing personal, the CL Type S is a very nice car. One of my friends drives one. But it's no S4. We'll kill you on the highway, we'll beat you on the track, and we will utterly destroy you on a twisty back road. I'm not even going to mention rain, snow or Quattro.

Hey, when your done sucking on my hairy yambag why don't you re-read my ORIGINAL post. Where did I say I whipped an S4, and IMO, I paid 30K for my car, not the 40's. I would HOPE you would win.

 

I've been a member over there for a long time. I was actually considering an S4 before I got my M3.

They're really nice cars, but I didn't want something that was gonna spend more time in the dealers shop than on the road. They've got some serious turbo related issues, not to mention blow-off valve problems etc....

They are fairly quick, but to make them run from a dead stop, you've gotta rev the piss out of them and drop the clutch. Otherwise, you're looking at mid/high 14 second quarter mile times.

A car with those traits would not last long with me......

 

That's a weak argument. There are cars that cost less than a CL-S that would easily smoke a CL-S.

Since when does price have anything to do with it anyway?

 

Aside from the price, it is a superior performance vehicle hands down and I don't expect my CLS to beat it. I still think I have the best bang for a buck that's why I mentioned price. Sorry, if I buy an S-4 I better be able to beat most cars in the food chain, much like buying an M3.

 

The M3 is a great car. I owned a 98' in a previous life. And there is no doubt that it was one of the most fun cars I have ever owned. The problem was that I had to own a MB ML430 at the same time because my BMW could never make it up the driveway. The S4 offers incredible speed and handling, as good IMO as the M3, plus the "unfair advantage" of Quattro. IMHO, the S4 has much better fit and finish and many more creature comforts.

But to compare the CL-S to an S4 or an M3 is ridiculous.

I saw a 13.5 timeslip for a WRX on a Surabu forum. Exhaust + boost controller.

 

I just wish Comptech would get that Supercharger out so we can see how much better our times COULD be!

 

If you have any doubts about what an S4 can do to a CL Type S, just ask Pele77. He's my best friend and has a CL Type S (He posts on here) My Stage 2 S4 blows his doors off and he knows it. But for 10K less the CL Type S is a sweet car!!! He's getting headers and exhaust in a week, so we'll see if he can keep it a little closer.

Actually, should be 12s with upgraded turbos. That 13.5sec slip had a trap speed of 97mph though....that's about the same as a CL-S isn't it?

As for S4s, they can run 13.3s with minimal mods. :p

Oh yeah...the super chip that makes the S4 a monster...that I've not seen anyone in the Bay Area buy!?! And more S4s are sold here than anywhere else with the exception of LA ANd NYC. Hmmm...could it be because it has a problem with all that boost blowing motors!?!
Yeah...the 97 mph trap speed is indicative of how hard the car is being launched...look at the 60 ft times and you will know. The higher the RPMS...the more the car struggles...

 

S4s have 99 mph trap speeds stock... the 97 mph was for the WRX... learn how to read. S4 will pull harder than your CL-S at any rpm.

SCCA has bumped the Integra Type R, VTEC Preludes, IS300, 6-cyl 3-series, and WRX up to D-stock, where the S4 is.

Is the performance of the S4's that unapproachable? Obviously not at all when it comes to AutoX courses (given comparable drivers, duh; that's one's for you autoXerCL. )

The E36 M3 is in B-Stock, and the E46 M3 is in Super Stock. Absolute track monsters.

 

Per the original post, my experience is about the same. The only place I did better was 60-100. My third gear did really well. I let off at 100, knowing what would happen when I hit 4th.

 

I have a good friend who has an S4 and when we went to the track last year, he beat me everytime. Not badly, but decidedly.

Oh, and I can't drive that well anyway, I know.

 

Man, what are you talking about? With chip and exhaust, my car is about a second faster than it was stock. There are S4s in Cali that are fast. If you want, I'll be sure and let a few of them know so you can have a little go at them on the street, strip or track. :p As for not seeing any, there are more people who don't mod the car than that do...just like CL-S owners or any other car. It's not a super chip or anything else. If the chip controls boost and timing, changing boost and timing (like any other turbo car) would make for significant power gains. That's one of the pros of having forced induction on your car from the factory. As for turbos blowing, I believe Audi has a problem with certain cars. There are stock cars that have had the turbos go and there are cars that have every mod under the sun and go to countless track events and haven't been in for a single repair. While that doesn't make me feel better about it, I enjoy my car like you do yours.

You guys are all funny... an S4 stock runs 5.9 0-60 times and an Avant wagon runs 6.0..... I love my acura but come on... be realistic...our cars aren't the shit!!!! I love my car but I know its limitations. Stock the car will beat us... with more boost the car will kill us!!! AND YES EVEN THE WAGON!!!!!!!!!!

 

What is your attitude problem? Not once did I come over here bashing your or any other Acura....I don't bash on any car. Did I once ask you to bow down to an Audi or any other car? Hell no. You just want to start a flame war and I'm not even trying to hear that. You're acting just like the Audi, BMW, Acura...owners that make the whole look bad. Why can you just have a friendly discussion and leave it at that? Is that hard for you? Or do you have a God complex and think all other cars are beneath you? All cars have good and bad things about them....just leave it at that.

As for hard core S4 racers, they don't really care about drag racing. They are more into road course & auto-x events. I on the other hand like drag racing, but I don't see the need to beat on my car every week at the drag strip. I'll buy another cheap car to beat on that way if it breaks, I don't give a shit. Just park it and fix it when I get to it. Where exactly are you located? What strip do you go to? I'll see if I can get some of them to go out there and let you have at them. If you win, great. If you lose, great. Doesn't matter.

Now that I think about it, you've talked alot of shit for someone who has no clue what my car runs. I don't have to go back to AudiWorld and what need do I have to crying a river?

As for the performance of my car...Until you produce a slip that is faster than mine, I suggest you hush all that trash you're talking.

My times
Bone stock I ran a 14.1 @ 97.9 in at the hot ass Texas Motorplex. The track elevation is 500ft and the temp was 80 degrees. I don't have that slip scanned. All runs were made at this track.

Here's my first time at the track with just the "superchip" as you called it. All times are on my 19" wheels so the times will be better when I get my set of 19s that weigh 10lbs less per wheel. Temp was in the 50s

And this is my slip from my last trip to the track with the chip, exhaust and 2 gallons of race gas....NO extra boost. Ambient temp was 70 degrees. However, I did bump the rev limiter before crossing the line.

Most drivers will probably run that 5.9 0-60, but with a good driver a 5.5 is easily obtained. You don't have to rev to 5k and drop either. I never ever ever ever ever do that. I want to keep my car.

As for the wagon..heehehe....There's a guy Pat in Southern Cali with a few mods (he won't tell any of us what he has done) that's out there beating on alot of people. The last race I saw on video was him running a LS1 WS6. He gave him a car lenght lead and the go....and won by a car or two. That guy drives like he stole it.

Any car can be fast if you are prepared to spend the loot. Shoot, a Geo metro could take all of us out if someone was crazy enough to waste enough money to make it fast.
