Dollar for Dollar what are the best performance MODs for 2001type-s Auto
I want MAX bang for the buck. I want to start improving the performance of my 2001 CL type-s auto. I don't have 10k to spend but what are some things I could do to improve 0-60. maybe 0-5k. Thanks guys.

Comptech Headers $1K
or cheaper the alternative same design but known to have issues, OBX Headers ~$300
AEM CAI or Comptech Icebox (Air Intakes)
.... ugh, instead of typing this all out, just read this thread...

The headers are second on the list of most bang for your buck at around 70$ per WHP. Comptech Icebox will do less but also costs less per every HP gained at the wheeels.
Chap has a sight with this info on it...not sure of it though..
I would say headers would be an excellent choice though for the most HP gain w/o a supercharger or putting the car on the bottle.

Right now I'm thinking Headers, Intake, and Springs are the way to go and a transmission cooler, since this car is my everyday commuter. Should this void my warranty? Last Question. If I go with the comtech headers and Icebox Intake what type of HP increase should I expect? Comptech dyno chart looks like 10-30 what do you guys think?

Some (in the know) would argue that the S/C is...

it's hard to argue w/ well applied math!

I'd say headers. 30 peak whp for $1100 is pretty nice... especially when you consider they sell their S/C for $4200 or so and that only gets you about 40-45whp (although the torque curve is much sweeter with the S/C).
AEM Intake - $180 / 6hp = $30.00 per hp gained
Comptech Icebox - $248 / 8hp = $31.00 per hp gained
Headers - $1100 / 30hp = $36.67 per hp gained
Injen Intake - $220 / 6hp = $36.67 per hp gained
CT S/C - $3,965 / 40hp = $99.13 per HP (but the torque curve should be factored in as well as it's not all about HP)
So really, IMO, for under $7 more per hp the headers are the way to go and the mod you'll feel the most. FYI, I used the prices from our CCC site. HP gained can also vary.... the numbers above are averages of peak HP gained from dynos I've seen over the years.

Using the total power gained, not the peak:
236 / $230 = 1.02 HP/$ - Intake
184 / $1000 = 0.18 HP/$ or 184 / $400 = 0.46 HP/$ (Dependant on the Manufacturer) - Headers
1196 / $3900 = 0.31 HP/$ - SC
1586 / $4000 = 0.40 HP/$ - SC+HBP
2563 / $5700 = 0.45 HP/$ - SC+IC+HBP
I quickly revised this now that I have been on the dyno and using the estimates from the upcoming dyno. Total gains were actually greater than in the math I previously used. But regardless, the IceBox would still be well in front.

Taking this a bit further, consider the amount of use out of the mod. You spend very little time above 5k revs where the headers provide any benefit. On the contrary you spend quite a bit of time in a range where the IceBox and SC helps. Every stop light or stop sign allows you to benefit from the IceBox and blower.
If we could come up with an equation for the usefulness factor it would be apparent that the IceBox is by far the best mod per $$.
OK, I'll take a stab at this. Let’s say the usefulness factor is a percentage of potential benefit. You are benefiting from the Icebox and the SC throughout the rev band so its benefit factor will be 1.00. However, would rarely venture into VTEC territory in normal driving so lets say this is only ten percent of the time (probably too high) so the headers receive a benefit factor on 0.10.
Apply this to the above numbers:
236 * 1.00 / $230 = 1.02 HP/$ - Intake
184 * 0.10/ $1000 = 0.02 HP/$ or 184 / $400 = 0.05 HP/$ (Dependant on the Manufacturer) - Headers
1196 * 1.00 / $3900 = 0.31 HP/$ - SC
1586 * 1.00 / $4000 = 0.40 HP/$ - SC+HBP
2563 * 1.00 / $5700 = 0.45 HP/$ - SC+IC+HBP
This makes the headers look like a big waste of money; however, I wouldn't have not gotten them. Heck, I've bought two Comptech sets so far (for my '01 and my '03 6-Speed) and am very pleased I did.

Tires 500-700$ for the ability to put stock power down let alone any HP improvements...add that to loosing the lower esonator and a K&N drop in for less than 50$

n2o was the best bang for the buck for me. it's really only useful at the track though.
