Does the unichip make adjustments like the stock ECU?

Does the unichip make adjustments like the stock ECU?
For instance, if you get bad gas (or lower octane) will the unichip retard engine performance like the stock ECU or does it simply stick in a single mode?

As far as I know the majority of the gains from the Uni-Chip come from advanced timing. Don't really know how that will affect the stock ECUs ability to retard.
