Does this mean the end of the 3.2 liter Mercedes engine?
Does this mean the end of the 3.2 liter Mercedes engine?
In Europe Mercedes has substituted/renamed the (only sold there) S320 with the denotation S350. The 3.2 liter engine used here in the USA almost in all their cars is replaced by a new 3.7 liter engine making 245HP DIN (the 3.2 liter engine here makes 218 or 215 depending who you ask where in Europe they call them 224 due to the DIN measurement). The engine consumes 3.5% less gas than the 3.2 liter engine.
Mercedes also went through a complete revamp of their very popular 4 cylinder engines in Europe. They chose to make them all 1.8 liters large in the name of economy. In some cases using a supercharger an air to air intercooler, variable valve timing and a Lanchester balancer making from 143HP (NA) to 192 HP (supercharged).
There is also a new Direct Injection 1.8 liter engine which makes 170 HP. All direct injections Mercedes cars will be called CGI for (Stratified) Charged Gasoline Injection.
