Some people here have added the basslink system to their CL's to make up for this shortcoming.

Nope.

The CL does have an external amp in the trunk, just no sub.

The amp powers the 6x9's in the rear deck.

It has a factory bose amplifier in the trunk.
No Sub, but the stock 6 X 9's produce quite some bass for stock=)
love it how they're designed perfectly for the free air of the trunk space.
I would never swap out my 6 X 9's

A passive radiator or a radiator?

A passive radiator is a speaker driver that is not powered and is used in conjunction with a woofer generating movement by being vibrated by the back-pressure of the powered woofer. Passive radiators are used instead of ports to achieve a similar effect. Instead of being ported, the woofer enclosure is sealed and airtight. The powered woofer moves and creates pressure inside the cabinet, increasing pressure as it moves in and decreasing pressure as it moves out. The passive radiator is moved by these pressure changes being pushed out as the woofer moves in compressing the air inside the cabinet and being pulled in as the woofer cone moves out.

The passive radiator allows the back force of the powered woofer to increase sound levels without using a port or opening the cabinet in some other way. This results in tighter, lower bass more similar to a sealed enclosure with increased efficiency more like a ported enclosure (of course not fully achieving the maximums set by either format as this design is a calculated compromise).

Are the head units for the CL and TL the same......is there a pin out on the back for a sub on the CL. Right now I have my sub spliced into one of the rear speakers, but Id rather have it hooked into a sub specific output.

The head units are the same but there is no sub output on either one.

The amp controls either the sub (TL) or the 6x9's (CL).

I'm not really sure if the amp is different from CL to TL though.

I got my aftermarket sub wired the same way you do.

01-03 CL and 01-03 TL have the same radio. I was assuming this was the year models in question.

All other years, the CL and TL do have different radios.

No they don't. The TLs head unit has an external eq as well as the connectors on the back are different, to accomodate the sub on the TL. Yes they are both 6-disk changers, but that's about all that's the same.

Really?

I always thought they were.

I've only been in a TL once.

I stand corrected.

if you swap the 6x9's for something like Alpine 3-ways, do you still use the bose amp?

it's like this:

ages 35 and up, Acura/Bose system rocks
ages 26-35, brain battling to replace or not to replace
ages 16-26, yank the whole system and start fresh or forever be unhappy

In my opinion, both systems suck, but I think the TL sounds a little better. Neither compare to the Lexus IS300 factory system.
Also, from what I've been told, the CL and TL head units are completely different other than looks. The CL systems have separate amps for the speakers whereas the TL head unit has the amp built in for the door speakers and a separate one for the sub only. The CL is a six speaker system and the TL has 5. Also, the 6cd changer wasn't offered in the TL until '02-'03, but my girl's '01 CL has one. just my two cents..

anyone dynamated the back deck to get some extra umph out of those 6x9's?? they are already really punchy, but with a little dynamat i be they would sound like and 8 or something... also, is the hi level converter in your cars behind the radio or directly under the back speakers?? if its behind the radio certain manufactures sell inline rca level controls, one in mind is the one from Rockford, its amazing!
