I think the paint is covered by a 4-year/50,000-mile warranty.

I had imperfections on my paint awhile back, it was covered under warranty, didn't cost me a penny.

Some people have posted here that their paint was 'fixed' by the dealer's body shop. IIRC, all of these issues were in the first few months of ownership. After a few years, I doubt your paint problem would be covered under warranty.

It doesn't hurt to ask the dealer though.

if you want a good job it would be roughly around 3g. I mean hey you pay what you get. I pay less you get less quality. It all depends on you lol. My friend just got his is300 repainted 22 coats for 3500.

I would love the dealer to repaint my bumper where it is chipping under the headlight, now that is rediculous. A piece two weeks ago, was just hanging

Keep in mind, repainting your car significantly reduces the value. Plus, unless the paint is really needed, there's no paint job like one from the factory.

Well that's lame...The previous owner made the mistake of leaving the CL-S out during a windstorm, and that caused a few roof shingles to ding the car pretty good. Any chance for reimbursement for unintentional damage? I hope they'll cover that. I'm going in for a transmission recall tomorrow, I wonder if I'll get some kind of loaner while they're doin it...

The previous owner may be able to file an insurance claim and pass along to you whatever he gets. Did you figure the bad paint into the price of the car when you bought it?

No reason Acura would cover it.

RE: painting

when I purchased my CLS6 - I wasn't jazzed with the white exterior and asked for pricing on dealer re-paint....first - they take it apart - it will take several weeks and run 4-5k....and no promise that it won't be less than perfect fit and a little creaky....

Side note - I did get the dealer to repaint the rear bumper for free.

Nah, my parents blindly bought it in a hurry without me closely inspecting it myself. If I did catch it, I would've mentioned it and gotten some sort of deal with the previous owner or used-car dealer, but too late now.

I have a few Ford's painted under warranty. They had a problem with their 93-96 clear coats. The paint just cracked after a few years. Other then that, I've never heard of a warranty issue with Acura paint.

22 coats of paint? Why...that is kinda b.s. either he doesn't know shit about paint of the the painter is pullin the wool over his eyes. 22 coats is waaaaay to thick. A good paint job is only 3-6 coats MAX.

not true if you spent about 5 g'z on a car you would get a paint job thats = to factory. they would take the paint off all of the car down to bare metal. use a high grade primer wet sand the prime, then clean and put about 6 to 10 coats of paint and another 4-6 coats of clear on the car. but dont plan on haven your car for a couple of months. it all depends on who paints the car and how and what materials are used. it can be better that factory paint. and if you think factory paint is the best tell that to echo and neon owners they use no primer on the car. thats why with in 3 or 4 years the paint is peeling off the car. and if you did get warrenty paint coverage done consider your self lucky. i used to work for high end dealerships on sublet work doing paint repairs. every thing from acura to porsche and they never covered it unless it got fucked up on delivery. the customer always payed the service department.

what you dont mention is that the car has to be taken completely apart including cutting out your 1/4 glass' windsheild and back glass to avoid tape lines and paint chipping by doing this you break all of your factory seals and run the risk of having problems down the road plus you have to dissasemble the doors completely remove all of the mouldings, windsheild washer nozzles emblems ect. running the risk of something breaking durring the process or not working when you get the car back creating a headache with return trips to the shop.

i work in a body shop and i will be the first to tell you not to paint your car complete or change the color unless you plan on showing it or it really needs it
