Do you rotate your own tires?
How do you lift your car? The book says to lift from a point right behind the front wheel and in front of the rear. Unless you have two jacks, you're going to have to set one end down on a jack stand so you can go lift up the other end. Is the spot they tell you to lift from big enough to make the switch without damaging anything? Also, what weight rating is considered safe for our car? I don't want to trust the jack that comes with the car because I read a story once about one collapsing.

I dont understand what the problem is...Just do exactly how you are saying, jack one part up and let it down on the jack stand, there is plenty of room to have both under a good strong point and go around to jack up the other tire - you are good to go! and I used the stock jack one time when I didnt have my good one, it was fine, just a pain in the ass

Jack stands are a must have IMHO. Between me and my brother, we're got 8 (maybe 10) jackstands in the garage.
As far as there not being enough room for both the jack and jackstands: NEVER get under a car that on just a jack alone. Always use jackstands before getting under a car. Too many people have lost their lives due to being crushed when a jack gave out.
Shawn S has some good pics here of what he does when he's messing with his tires:

If you are planning to do your own rotating all the time it's worth the 90 bucks to get two jacks. I bought 2 ac delco 2500lb jacks at murrys for 35 a piece. Due to my aggressive camber I rotate at every oil change. Plus I do my girlfriends car also so it was deffinitly worth it. Plus you can get an adaptor for the jack so it fits over the stock lifting point perfectly.

I do, I dont trust the monkeys working on my car anymore than they have to. I barely rotate the stock wheels, usually when I swap in my track wheels since they're off anyways.

I take out the jack and the spare tire, jack up one tire, put on the spare, go to where that tire is supposed to go, jack it up, put on that tire, and so on until I get back to the corner with the spare. I put the stuff back in the trunk and go have me a ham sandwich. Takes about an hour.

I have 2 large jacks, & rotating is easier obviously than without them. You can even use small jacks if you have them. It only takes a few minutes to rotate you tires, and you don't have to be under the car. Tools are a good investment.

you dont need 2 jacks but it is beneficial.....one way to do it is lift one side up use a horse jack to hold it in place then go to the other side crisscrossing and jack it up....then put another horse jack, ect btw u need 4 horse jacks....DIY is always the best why pay some retarted price for someone to rotate ur tires...its a 15 min job...

All the posts I read talk about placing both jack stands on one end or the other. Isn't it safe to jack up one side at a time as well using two jack stands when rotating just left or right side tires, or is that just a humongous waste of time? I broke down and bought a cheesy jack with a pair of comparable cheesy stands. All I will use it for is tire rotation and oil changes. The jack only goes up to a little over 13 inches. Is that too short with stock tires and stock height? Is it safe to jack stand one side of the car at a time? Pardon the dopey questions.

I use two floor jacks when I rotate the tires every 3,000-Miles.
The big blue one pictured above in the link and my old (and much smaller) Craftsman.
I jack the car from the SIDE.
One behind the front tire and one in front of the rear tire in the factory lift positions.

How high does the jack have to lift from the front and rear jack points to get a couple jack stands underneath it? I'm looking at a 3 ton jack right now that says it's max lift height is 21" or something like that. I was wondering if that's a high enough lift

Mine are pretty LOW and I can get them in front or back with no problem.
My jack has a 22” lift.

Smitty, that undercarriage is impressive. Nice work. Makes me jealous. You bust your butt making the top side look nice, then you jack up the car and get depressed. I used to live in Rochester, NY and raising the car was downright disillusioning. Salt is such an evil enemy, and you can't keep up with it if you only have one car (as I do). At least here in VA road salting is not as necessary in the winter and the car's life span is a little longer. I had an '86 Accord up there and it almost completely dissolved from the bottom up.
