Do any major car rental companies have manual transmission cars to rent?

I know National and Hertz don't, but what about the others? The reason I ask, is it may be better to get a rental for a day to teach the wife how to get the basics down before she tears loose on the G35.

Ideas???

best bet is the cheap beater idea 500 or less and you can practice till the cows come home on it. donate it (tax write off) or junk it when your done.

Where the hell are you guys finding "beaters" for $500 and under?

WTF? For that price, you should expect a dangerous little shitbox with bald tires, no brakes, and carbon monoxide-filled exhaust leaks right thru the holes in the floors.

Buying a shitbox is out of the question. I don't want to have to title it, get insurance, license plate, find someone to buy it or donate it, etc...

Too much work to teach the blonde wife how to drive.

What? A blonde?

My best guess on rental places with manuals would be the U-Haul type truck places, but even those have gone to mostly automatics.

Go rent a 20 FOOT U-Haul.
If she can learn to drive THAT beast smoothly, she can drive ANYTHING with 3-pedals !!!

I can see the headlines now...

"20-foot U-Haul submerges in Lake Michigan. Woman driver unharmed. Husband missing."
