Discrepancy in 30k mile service prices

So i am bout 500 miles away from 30k and i called the only 2 acura dealerships in the area. One quoted me $471 to do the 30k service and the other one that is about 25 miles away quoted me $318 to do the same service.

Is there any reason why there would be a $160 diffrence in the service? I sure dont want to pay almost $500 for some easy service.

Compare apples to apples. The more expensive bid may be from the extra cost of a trans flush or interior air filter change.

Why bother with a stealership 30K service? Give me a good reason.

There is no major service on the 6MT CL-S until 105K miles. The only maintenence needed are oil changes, tire rotations, brake fluid flush every 3 years, air filters, inspections to replace other items as worn.

I understand why some people don't like to DIY some of the dirtier maintenence, but if you can put fuel in your car, you can change the air filters yourself and do some of the basic inspections yourself.

If you are going to have a dealership con you into 30K service, have them itemize what they're doing for the car and what they're charging for each item.

There's a million threads here on this topic.

Mean? my butchering of the spelling of maintenance?

I thought I gave the standard AcuraZine reply to a commonly asked question.

IMHO, one of the selling points of the CL was the lack of significant necessary maintenance (apart from oil/tires/brakes) until 105K miles.

I agree with Slimey. Do the work yourself, all of the 30K miles can be done at home with a set of handtools, a jack & stands, and a service manual. Best investment you can make is to purchase a Helms manual. It will pay for itself ten times over.

Well not everyone wants to spend their saturday doing alll that crap and not everyone knows what to look for when you are inspecting all that stuff. So if i can take my car to a dealership have them do it in one day, and even get a loaner car, why not do it. $300 is not that much to spend to keep your's maintinance up to date.
They also adjust your valves and i wouldnt know where to begin to do something like that.

Read the owners manual or read acura owner link (https://www.ahm-ownerlink.com/login.asp?brand=acura ) to see what exactly is needed on the 30K service. You'll be suprised at what little there is to get done.

I got quoted $500 for the 30K (2 different acura dealers). No way I can justify paying that for changing the oil, air filter, cabin filter, and rotating the tires.

If I had gotten a $300 quote I'd might have let the dealership do it for the reasons you stated (loaner, ease, etc).

EDIT: Adjusting the valves isn't listed as part of the 30K service.

They also adjust your valves
Since when? That's not part of any service.

I'm in agreement of not going to a dealer. If you guys don't want to do it fine....at least avoid the dealer. They overcharge big time. A good local shop, or even a chain store like pepboys, tirekindom, etc all do service maintance for way less.

For the price differences....It's a dealer item. Some chage more then others. Just like any product, some places sell things cheaper then others. A service is a product to a dealer.

As I said earlier, I'm not contending that some don't want to DIY, that's not really the issue.

One of the selling points of the CL is that it is essentially maintenance-free until 105K miles. Don't let the dealer tell you otherwise. Remember, they're in the business to make money, and a lot of their money is made on service.

Read your manual.

Bring it to my house. I will do it all for $150.00 and you can spend the extra dough on a nice rental car. No kidding man, that is a BIG WASTE of over $300.00 bucks.

BTW: I am in Clearwater about 10 minutes from Crown Acura.

What these guys are trying to say is that you need to have the dealers itemize the lists. You will notice that over half the stuff is just checking the brakes and other crap. I just told them to change my oil and rotate my tires. They checked my alignment for free and told me I didn't need an adjustment.

It's the reason why I went with the CLS...

No maintenance until 105k...which I just passed.

The ONLY thing I have ever done to my car since I got it new have been tires, brakes, and cleaned out the CAI a couple of times....ok ok...the oil every 3k as well.

Now that I've crossed the 105k mark I plan on doing the following:
  • Spark Plugs
  • Wires
  • Fuel Filter
  • Flush Radiator
  • Flush Brake Lines
  • Tranny (fighting to get it replaced)
  • 18 x 8 wheels and tires
  • Check seals...perhaps replace them if they need it

Any suggestions on plugs and wires anybody?

The CLS doesn't use wires. It's a coil on plug setup.
