Disappointing Trade Money For CL-S

I had the afternoon off today, so I decided to check out some Thunderbird convertables. I had heard that they were selling them at invoice here in FL. Sure enough...you can buy one at the dealer invoice. But they only wanted to give me about $ 22,000. for my 2003 CL-S. That sucked! Kelley Blue Book suggests that my car is worth about $24,000. and about $28,000. retail. That's not including all the CompTech crap which no one wants to give you diddly squat for. I told them to call me back if Ford wants to go $10,000. and my car for the Bird...otherwise syonara!!

Maybe you're right, but...they could also be a collector too since they are no longer going to produce them. It's a gamble and no one knows.

KBB values don't mean shit to a car dealer, their trade-in values are always too high. Dealers go by Galves, which is the most indicative of wholesale values (dealer auction values).

2003 has major engine upgrade. From 252 HP to 280 HP 4/valves per cylinder. Car is peppy...and comfortable. There was talk of a SVT Ford supercharger as an option, but was killed with decision to stop producing the Bird.

I'm not sure about that CLSter. It doesn't have the name recognition. We're talking about classic designations. I'm not sure the CL-S has it. The T-Bird goes back to the 50's.

I was kidding... There were over 19,000 2002 T-birds sold so I highly doubt there will be any collectors scrambling for them for a long time.

I am always amused when people expect a high trade in at a dealership. They always shoot for wholesale pricing.

Modern day collectibles generally arent worth it, specially something like the tbird.

Because of the fact that everyone now knows the older collectables are in fact worth money anything made nowadays is just fodder for retailers to try and make more money. Not many thing today are as collectible as their orignal counterparts.

Sides, would you consider the last gen Tbird before the currents onec to be collectibles? I sure as hell wouldnt, and I dont it will be that case with these either. Buying a car as a monetary investment is a HUGE risk and generally not worth it by any means unless you are a true collector.

Its a gamble of which you pretty much already know the outcome.

it's had 32 valves all along,
Ford decided to finally use the variable valve timing heads from the Jaguars
in the T-Bird & Lincoln LS since the
new Jag's are using a more powerfil 4.2L V-8

Right on. Those new birds are f'ing terrible.

You know an average girl can drive a hot car and be sexier because of that?
Well I saw a hot milf the other day but she was in one of those new t-birds and that instantly lost her like 20 points on the hotness scale.

Terrible car. Ugly, weak, and over-priced whatever it costs.

If I could think of anything else negative to say about it, I would. I would rate it right up there with the Aztec.

No matter what the car, I hate the methods these dealers use to try and sell you the car. They give you with one hand and take back with the other. Here is the perfect example...They want to sell you the T-Bird at dealer invoice, but short you 2 grand on the trade. Damn theives. Who was it who said: "You can fool some of the people some of the time, but not all of the people all of the time."

Just sell the car privately... it may be more of a hassle.. but you'll get more money for it.

When I bought my TL in July '01 I was thinking about trading my 98 CL in... but the dealer was only going to give me around $13,500 for it (BTW, he went to KBB.com, typed in the specifics of my car, rated it good... and gave me the price it popped up with.. and he did that all in front of me.... so I guess this dealer used KBB). Anyway, I told him no thanks... I'll sell it myself..... I ended up getting $16k for it privately. He didn't really believe me until I showed him the bill of sale.

I've never traded a car in b/c they just hose you... I'd rather take some time to sell it myself and put the extra money in my pocket vs. some dealers pocket....

You always can get more for your car if you sell it privately, but you can also get more aggrevation too.

No. He showed me some of the concept drawings, it looked pretty cool, but tons of upper management with red tape dispensers totally raped the poor car.

Indeed....they took a pretty cool retro concept, then put a Lincoln LS interior in it. Dumb move.

If I were in the market for a used car, I would choose just about anything over an Auto CLS. That's like marrying a chick you know has herpes.

I apologize...I was just trying to think of a good analogy for the stress I've felt since my first tranny went. How about Buying a used CLS Auto is like marrying a chick with a dick? Sure, you may have some fun at first, but in the end, you'll get fucked in the ass.

Seriously, I didn't mean to offend.
