Difficulty of Icebox install

How hard is this install? I called Velocity and they said 2-3 hours, and some cutting and rearanging. What have you guys found?

2-3 hours is about right, unless you've got some experience with it.

If you can use a rachet and a screwdriver you'll be fine. It took me a couple hours, but I was going real, real, slow, and was in no rush. It's not difficult, but a little tedious in a few steps.

It's also helpful to jack up the driver corner of the car to access the underside of the Icebox so you can place the horn correctly.

I would not do anything significant inside the car without having a Helm manual nearby. It's helpful to see where things should be and has all the torque settings of most every bolt in the car. It also has instructions for the idle learn procedure and how to bleed the coolant system.

Someone (I think Shawn S) said the Helm manual is the single best mod to buy for this or any car. I agree.

I watch the installers at Garage Kwai install the whole thing from start to finish .. it took TWO guys (both VERY good at what they do) about 2 hours to finish it.

They had to remove the bumper

They had to lift the car up several times to access the underside

There were sooo many screws that came out and then went back in, and there was plenty of improvisation at times... i'm so glad i had it professionally installed for $30.00.

It isn't that difficult, just use common sense. Plus you don't need to remove the bumper as stated in the directions, especially since you don't have springs yet! If I can do it....anyone can.

If you follow Comptech's directions to a 't' then you have to remove the bumper. If you use some common sense and advice from this forum, you don't. Just remove the flap of the undercar liner in the front driver corner -- about three or four plastic clicky thingies and one bolt -- and you'll have direct access to the underside of the airbox area. Jack the car up so you don't have to lie on your back.

hell, I didn't take off the front bumper, the wheel, or even jack up the car. It's really not that hard to do. But if you do have a floor jack, I'd use it.

Sorry, my post wasn't clear.

I meant to say that I did the install w/out removing the bumper and w/out jacking the car up at stock height.

The hardest part for me, honestly, was getting those damn plasic pop rivets off the splash guard under the bumper. They were falling apart b4 they would break loose.

also pay attention to the positioning of the bracket. it really should be turned 180 degrees from the way the instructions show it.
