Is it difficult to change a door?

someone rammed into my 1991 accord. i was in a parking lot here in sterling, va when this young girl wasn't looking and backed out from her parking space right into the driver's side of my car. she badly dented the rear passenger door that the seals at the top leak water and it doesn't open all the way. it does close but i need to slam it hard for it to close. it's an old car...i use it as my commute car and for bad weather. i rate the painting on the entire car a 2 out of 10. some spots are badly oxidized. bought the car for $500 about a year ago and did some major repair for it to run decently. and now it does. it's got 170000 miles and i plan to keep the car for as long as it runs.

anyway, the estimator for progressive ( the girl's insurance) came out to my place and said the rear door shell (entire door) needs to be replaced which i would like to do. the driver's door, although slightly dented, is okay. i don't mind leaving it that way cuz it's an ugly car anyway. so my plan is to just take a check from progressive, go to some junk yard and get a rear door then try to install it myself. i did some search on the web and found a door which costs $150. as far as painting it, i don't mind using krylon or some car paint i can purchase from trak auto as long as it's close enough to the color of my car.

so, is it difficult to replace the door....running the wires through the grommets....putting on the window(glass)? what're your opinions, suggestions?

You can probably do it yourself. It is hardly worth paying someone to install the door and paint it for how much the car is worth. Try looking at a repair manual at your local library or bookstore for instructions.

Whatever you choose to do, good luck.
