Different Gas Companies

Okay guys, has anyone tried different gas stations and can comment on which station the CL-S (6-speed in my case) likes better? I know on my GSR, the best mileage I've ever gotten was from Shell (91 octane). However, since it was hard to come by, I used both Mobil and Chevron and eventually only Chevron. Since getting my CL-S last August, I've only fed her Chevron 91 octane.

Curious what your experiences are for power and fuel efficiency.

Thanks guys!

My CL-S doesnt seem to run any different no matter what I use in it. My modified 280Z seems to run better on Shell 91 but I've read that Shell has more sulfer in it which can be bad for some cylinder liners. I recall also reading that at one time, BMW specifically recommended against using Shell brand gas for this reason. The wife's Explorer seems to like Chevron but it is always 10-20 more per gallon. I'll use their premium when towing the boat.

Another thread here said all the fuel is pretty similar. My latest thread involves my experimental switch to regular unleaded and seeing a 10% GAIN in mileage under the same driving conditions. Not sure why and ultimately, I'll switch back when the humiditygoes down and the temp goes up.

I've tried to pay attention to the gasoline I use and see if it makes a difference. I keep a running log on every drop of gasoline that has been put in my car (except the tank of gasoline that it came with!).

I've used Amoco, Mobil, Exxon, Sunoco, BP, and Texaco, all with 93 octane.

I've not noticed any difference between products. Of course Mobil and Exxon are the same, as are Amoco and BP. I always use 'brand-name' gasoline.

Here in Florida we don't have 91 octane...it's 93. Actually I have found that my cars seem to run the best on Amoco Premium.

You want to avoid using Gas that contains ethenol. Its a cheap corn derivative the is more eco friendly. Gas stations use because they get huge cutbacks from the gov.

This is bad for your car because it runs hotter then regular gas which causes quicker wear on your cylinders which = quicker engine breakdown. Now it wont to use it everyonce in a awhile is you have but not all the time. The gas pumps should have it listed on he pump if uses ethenol or not.

Everyone should get their gas here (if it's in your area):

Or at a gas station that gets its supply from:

Yes, it's pretty compulsive, but nice to have thorough records, they can be quite handy for future reference (tax time, for instance). It takes me 20 seconds to write down the gas brand, octane, date, gallons, and miles driven -- and I do 99% of that while I'm waiting for the gasoline to pump.

No biggie.

It's all the same. Read #3.

The various companies add their special additives at their tanker truck terminals. They also blend the regular and premium to make the mid-grade.

I've ran a lot of different brands through my car(Shell,BP,amaaco,Speedway, gas america, a few independents, marathon, 76,Citgo)(about you name it around here i've ran it).
this is my opinion.
my favorite gas is Shell 87(i know the cheap crap) . it runs smoother and i think the car just runs better

now the gas my car hates is Marathon 87 ( it runs like sh!t) it hates this stuff.

I've talked with my dad who has a couple diesel tractors(and diesels are REAL reactive to certain types of fuels) we took a 5 gallon can of Diesel from Marathon (road fuel) and dumped it into the tractor it was all we could do to get it to start. it was nearly 1/2 water(seriously)(and water is really really bad in fuel).
we did use up that fuel.(even though the tractor was pulling a full gear harder and sounded like sh!t) next day we went and got Shell diesel(road diesel) and the tractor ran great. so now we run only Shell in the tractors.

I've only used Sunoco 93 since I had the car. I get about 380 miles per tank with normal driving.
