Did you sell your CL?
If so, how was the process? Did it take a long time? Did you get frustrated and bring down your price/ or trade in?

Mine's on eBay Motors right now. I've lowered my expectations of what I'll get by a couple grand, but it should sell. The price is MORE than fair, especially for the condition of the vehicle and the items that come with it in the sale.

Where I work, used cars offered me $18.5-19k for it, but I really can't afford to sell it for less than $20k and it's worth $22k easy.

I traded it into my Nissan dealer in March. I went to 4 Nissan dealers and I got offers from $17k to $19.5k. I tried selling it privately, but I gave up after a few weeks.
I gave in and took the $19,500 offer for my 2001 CLS with 29,000 miles.
It's definitely not a great used car market lately

22k miles silver w/ Navi and its a CPO car. Your car is very nice rare blue but $22k is pushing it considering its almost or out of warranty.

I sold my 01 CL-S w/navi last year. It hit the local paper on either Friday or Saturday, I had a guy agree to buy it on Sunday. Did the deal on Tuesday. The car was bone stock (never modded) but with 35% tint.

ok, back on topic:
I've got a 03 CLS 6spd. If I was to sell it, I probably wouldn't expect to get that much for it ($23-24K??). WHY??
1) The CLS has been discontinued, and discounted by dealers to $27K (see various posts about peeps buying recently).
2) You loose several thousand dollars the moment you drive it off the lot.
3) The economy sucks. The used sportscar market is a buyers market right now (although some sellers are in denial still).
If you look at some of the depreciation schedules for the CLS, they lose about 5K the first year and 4K the second year. If you add the "extra" depreciation for being discounted to 27K, it puts you right about 18-19K range. I won't go into the auto tranny problem and how that will play into the value of the CLS.
I think I'll keep mine for awhile till the depreciation starts to level off.

How many people can't read here? I said quite clearly I'm looking for $20.5-21k, not $22k, although that is black book value for my car.
And again, my car is better kept than any other 01 for sale in this area, and on top of that, I am offering the buyer options when it comes to the suspension as well as brand new parts on the vehicle, etc. Again, the value is there, the right person just needs to see the ad.
Anyway, I'm sure I can find someone in the area who will buy it for $20.5k, so that will be fine with me.

aftermarket parts don't add much if any value to a car. I do hope you find a buyer for 20.5K. Just don't think it'll happen, but I wish you luck

Lucky mine isn't for sale. Its better kept than yours. :P
Its all patience. You will get what you want for it. And you are totally correct, it just takes time for the right person to see it.
Is it also in autotrader?

you are trying to get that much and don't even have navi? So let me get this straight, you bought this car for say 27-28K. You expect it to only lose like 6-7K in a matter of 2 years and 50K miles?
#20
Wow, you're way off. It was $31k and change out the door.
I'm not sure why I'm bothering to explain this to you since you're irrelevant anyway, but I'll waste my time trying.
It's a TypeS, not a CLP. The navi doesn't mean shit anymore because it's already over a generation old. Go look at the navi in the MDX, RL, and TSX.
No one cares enough about the older navi to pay much more for it. It's like $500 difference in price at the most.
My car is garage kept, non-smoker, original owner, and every other thing I listed in the auction at eBay, and has some brand new parts on it that save the next owner from having to replace them. Plus I'm offering two suspensions, and they can have either one installed and they still get the other one as well.
If you don't want to pay the money for it, that's your choice. It doesn't somehow mean it's not worth the money, especially since what I'm looking to get is below private party blackbook value and that's on one without any new parts or extras!
And I'm accepting around 33% depreciation in 2 years. So lay off, CLpower.
And yes, you CAN get ones used at dealerships slightly cheaper. Of COURSE. Used car dealers have volume, I have a single car. They can sell cheaper than I can afford to. That's common sense.
Again what you forget is that theirs generally aren't going to be in as good condition as mine nor offer the extras mine does! And if there happens to be one somewhere in the US that is as in as good shape as mine, that still doesn't matter because there is more than one person in the market for the car!
I work at one of the largest Acura dealerships in the nation, probably with the largest used car dept of any of them, and I know what is on our used car lot and what comes and goes on it as well.
Anyway, the point of this thread was just to post a note to say my car's on eBay. Let's leave it at that.

I thought private party was suppose to be cheaper. Since the dealer always marks up and certifies the car so its worth more. Its all about the sense of security with the certified car because you have an extra year and 10k miles of warranty.
#23
Yes, Acura certified vehicles are worth slightly more, but it also costs more to get the car certified, so really it balances out for the dealership.
Private party value is always higher than what a dealer will give you in trade for your car. And again, dealerships are in the market for their end-of-the-month numbers, both volume and gross, not for the specific price of one car. Dealers can AFFORD to sell some of their cars cheaper, especially if they held back on the trade and then they are still making money on the car so it's really not selling it cheaper for them, but for someone like me it makes it harder to sell my car.
That's why I have taken excellent care of it and done things to add value to her to keep her worth the true market value for private party sale. Even so I'm asking quite a bit below that because it's unreasonable to ask that exact amount and on top of that some dealers selling the same type of car cheaper.
The thing is, I went through the local auto-trader for the DC area and I cut out some ads that showed '01 CLPs asking what as much or more than what I'm asking for my car, and CLSes (non-navi) with more mileage asking similar numbers, etc. So I know I'm in the right price range when there are ones asking the same or more and my car has more to offer than any of them.

Yeah that sounds about right for a trade-in. If it's in good condition, they'll clean it up, certify it, and ask $27 something for it. Probably sell it for $25.5 or more and make a couple Gs off ya.
But hey you can look at the positive side that you got that money for it without having to go through what I am with $50 for autotrader, $35 for cars.com, $40 twice for eBay Motors, and the time I'm not driving my car the past couple weeks to keep it clean from the detailing and the mileage where it is for the ads.
So you get less but you have less hassle. That's the trade-off of a trade-in.

Sold my 2001 in early August, this year to my roommate for $19.5k. Had it listed on the net in several places, only had a few returns and some of them were solicitations from other net based advertising firms. 2001 Black/Black Navi. *MINT* Condition.
It's tough out there, no matter what type/year you're trying to sell. Interests and dealer incentives are just to much to make looking at used vehicles overly appealing.

I got rid of my 2003 6 spd CL-S w/navi for 24K, and 16k miles. that was only after a lot of work, i taked with this guy for a long time, and kept milkin him. Plus i was trading in and getting a used car so that probably helped. I was getting offers for like 21 and 20. I almost shit my pants the first time i got a offer, 21K i wanted to punch this guy in the face. I'm just happy I got enough to pay off my loan and a little extra to put down. Like I have been saying, jump shit while you still can!

I went to a couple of places never to CarMax, i should have tried them also. But two places offered me 21, i was like no thanks have a nice day, and why don't you just choke on some cock while your at it. I mean 21 for not even a year old car and great condition and only 16K miles. I was happy i got out and got my loan amount. By the way Elliot, get off my dick alright. First of all i could afford it but would rather save for the future. Second i'm just playing around when i say jump ship, try not to take this so literally, this is a freakin forum and maybe you should get out more and interact with people. I enjoyed having my CL-S and its a very nice car, i'm just trying to have some fun while at work. So go jerk off someone else

PLUS you have to add a couple more grand to the depreication due to the fact that dealers are/were selling a CLS exactly like mine for $2K less then what I paid ($500 over invoice in Oct. 02).
After all is said and done, expect to lose about $10K of value after 2-3 years (with average mileage - 12K to 15K miles per year).
After 5 years, it'll be down to 1/2 what you paid for it.
Some people don't like to believe this stuff unless they see it on the web
http://www.edmunds.com/new/2003/acur...enav..4.Acura*
Scroll down to to the depreciation section (this is for a 2003 CLS 6spd). Other sites have similiar depreciation schedules for the CLS.
