Denso Iridium IK16???

I went to the local auto parts store today to pick up some new spark plugs, and they didnt have the IK20's so I got the IK16's. Basically my question is what is the major differenct in the two plugs. I heard somewhere that the higher the number, the cooler the plug. If that is true, will this affect my engine at all, having a hotter plug?? I havent installed them yet, and can still return them, but the manager at the store said they dont carry the IK20's and these were the best to get....?

I tried searching, but did not find anything helpful, so If someone can please help me out I would greatly appreciate it!

Thanks!!~

The IK16's are for the CL-P. Just order the IK20's off ebay for something. You can get them for around $50 off ebay.

Don't know what is or is not required for these cars but I can tell you about the temp difference on the plugs. Basically, if the car calls for a cooler plug, you do NOT want to use a hotter one. If so, you are more prone to pre-detonation (ie. knock) which of course is really bad for the engine. Sometimes when you do enough mods, you switch to a cooler plug but there is never a time in which you would want to switch to a hotter plug.

I thought NGK was better? Or is it actually the same company? How much for a set of 6 "16's" for a regular CL?

Well, NGK's are cheaper, if that's what you mean.

I'm just wondering where you guys are getting your info. On both DENSO's website www.densoiridium.com and NGK's website, www.ngk.com I find that both the CL-P and the CL-S run the same spark plug. DENSO recommends the IK16 for both cars. So where are you coming up with IK20 for the Type S model? I'm not trying to disprove anyone; I just want to know where you got that info.

they gotta be different because the type-s has higher compression, so it needs a cooler plug the IK20....vice versa. lower comp. the IK16

I'm curious... does the Type-S actually call for the cooler plug? Sounds like either Denso is mistaken in their specs or the Type-S does not actually need a cooler plug. May be based on others recommending it after they modded their car to produce higher combustion temps thereby necessitating a move to a cooler plug.

look under 2003 TL type S and you'll see IK 20's so the real answer to your question is dont always believe what a web site says your car calls for and denso has been told about there mistake 3 years ago and still hasnt corrected it

yes the Type S calls for a step coolder on plugs over the P looking at the 2003 TL type S exact same engine they show IK20...

Thanks typeR. It seemed logical due to the higher compression to run one stage colder plug. Their website just showed differently. Even NGK's site shows the same plug for the Type S or base model CL and TL on their site. It's funny. I didn't post what I found until I checked both sites.

not exactly true densos site is very confusing but at NGK for 2001 they show same base or S even though they show both engine codes...2002 they only show one engine code and in 2003 you'll see where they show the colder plug for the S in both CL and TL at DENSO it's even worse they show CL and TL and even type S taking the same plug ..until you click on just the IK16 link and then you'll see they only show engine code J32A1 as using this plug click on IK20 and you'll see the '04 TL but no sign at all of the J32A2 but you'll also see newer accord V6 and heck for that matter the RSX S takes the IK22
