Denso Iridium IK16???
I went to the local auto parts store today to pick up some new spark plugs, and they didnt have the IK20's so I got the IK16's. Basically my question is what is the major differenct in the two plugs. I heard somewhere that the higher the number, the cooler the plug. If that is true, will this affect my engine at all, having a hotter plug?? I havent installed them yet, and can still return them, but the manager at the store said they dont carry the IK20's and these were the best to get....?
I tried searching, but did not find anything helpful, so If someone can please help me out I would greatly appreciate it!
Thanks!!~

Don't know what is or is not required for these cars but I can tell you about the temp difference on the plugs. Basically, if the car calls for a cooler plug, you do NOT want to use a hotter one. If so, you are more prone to pre-detonation (ie. knock) which of course is really bad for the engine. Sometimes when you do enough mods, you switch to a cooler plug but there is never a time in which you would want to switch to a hotter plug.

I'm just wondering where you guys are getting your info. On both DENSO's website www.densoiridium.com and NGK's website, www.ngk.com I find that both the CL-P and the CL-S run the same spark plug. DENSO recommends the IK16 for both cars. So where are you coming up with IK20 for the Type S model? I'm not trying to disprove anyone; I just want to know where you got that info.

I'm curious... does the Type-S actually call for the cooler plug? Sounds like either Denso is mistaken in their specs or the Type-S does not actually need a cooler plug. May be based on others recommending it after they modded their car to produce higher combustion temps thereby necessitating a move to a cooler plug.

Thanks typeR. It seemed logical due to the higher compression to run one stage colder plug. Their website just showed differently. Even NGK's site shows the same plug for the Type S or base model CL and TL on their site. It's funny. I didn't post what I found until I checked both sites.
