Deer

Anyone ever have a deer run into their car yet? Happened to me last week. All I saw was a blur, then a big crunch sound. I was like shit, side of my CL must be messed up. Stopped got out to take a look, and all there was a very small dent in front fender. Cant say so much for deer! Anyone know a good paintless dent repair shop in the finger lakes area?

my mom hit one last month in her G35 sedan... was like 9k in damage. The air bags alone were like 2k each to put back... it's nuts. Deer in NJ are a rampant problem... they need to open season on them soon.

I hit an 8 point buck in my 89 accord. Terrential downpour, unlit back road. Fucker hit my winshield fucked up the whole driver side of the car, but to top it off i tried to pull over, but couldnt see on acct of a cracked windshield, down pour and no street lights. So i ended up rolling the car down a 5ft enbankment that i thought was a berm.

That was the end of that car.

also, i know this is reverse think but if you hit a deer, youre supposed to accelerate. Hitting the brake cause drag to pull down the front of car, greatening the chances of teh deer coming in the windshield. Course if you catch the fucker mid jump...

when my friend sees them on the side of the road, he honks the horn .. I'm not sure why he does this and I never asked, but does that scare them away or something?

My friend had a deer run into his prelude on the freeway. There was deer shit in the headlights, fur everywhere, and the whole front end was destroyed. Air bags deployed and everything.

There was a deer hit in DE a few weeks ago and it flew into an oncoming car and killed a couple people.

I've nearly hit a few here in NJ, we need to kill them.

My friend's Aunt went to Maine and hit a moose, killed the conversion van.

1986 Daytona Turbo-Z (1) DEAD Bambi
1988 Daytona Shelby-Z (2) DEAD Bambi
1991 Acura Legend Coupe (3) or (4) I forget DEAD Bambi
2001 Acura CL-S (1) wounded Bambi (almost got stopped, but it still cracked my headlight)
2003 CL-S (DEER KILL FREE and fingers crossed)

The worst one was the last one in my Legend Coupe.
I hit the sucker at like 30MPH and it flew up into the windshield of a Chevy Blazer going the other way.
Over 5-Grand damage to my car and I think his was totaled.
But it was the Blazer drivers fault. He had his high beams on and I couldn’t see SHIT.

We had this lady once that hit, ran over, and dragged a deer in her MDX come in for service. She wan't her 7500 mile service and to remove the rest of the blood from underneathe....it's been like 3 weeks and the shit was melted and caked on....lemme tell u about the WORST SMELL EVER!!!!!!!!!!!!As soon as we got it on the lift....we dropped it down and told the customer we're not working on it til she gets it professionally cleaned.

Shit....We even had to remove a cat from the fan belts once...no blood cause it just snapped it's neck but that was gross.

Thats a plus of living in a more suburban area, no deer. I've heard many a story however from friends/relatives living up state.

I drive by areas every day and there are deer grazing right along the side of the road.
They don’t even lift their heads as I drive by.
That’s why I say I doubt they work.

All of my “hits” have been at night when there’s no time to react.
The one hit on my Legend I actually saw the deer running towards the car and I STOPPED, but the stupid thing ran right into my drivers side door.

HELL NO !!!
I’ll take country living and wildlife over crowded urban areas any day.
I’ve lived in both.

Ant: I used to work with a guy who was working on his car engine, and the engine was running. He wasn't watching what he was doing, (this was a GM car, back when the engines pointed forward, not sideways) and got his index finger caught between the alternator belt and the alternator pulley.

I bet THAT hurt like hell.

I've never hit one yet. Every time I get into my car, I mentally send out an animal-friendly thought wave (kinda like Aqua man) and let them all know that I'm coming.

I agree but then we'd have PETA and NIMBY folk coming around to protest; PETA for the "harm" to animals and NIMBY for the hunting hazards to local residents.

New Jersey is one of the worst place to encounter deer. It's freaking everywhere They are a menace to motorists. The problem is that no one in the state is proposing to reduce the deer population. I guess there is no money to be taken for the politicians in this issue, although it will do a lot of good for the residents. So far, only Princeton township is doing something about it. They hire professional hunters during the season to reduce the herd

Same thing happened to a co-worker. She saw it crossing the street and stopped. She said it ran right into her stopped car.

When I volunteered as an EMT in Rochester, NY I saw quite a number of car vs. deer accidents (and car vs. house, car vs. tree, etc). The weirdest one was I think the first one of these calls - woman in her minivan with 4 young kids. The deer looked like it had exploded from the inside out. There was blood and chunks of flesh all over the van. Lucky them, nobody was hurt but the little kids were freaking out!

When in college I used to make 90-100 mph runs between Birmingham and Lafayette, LA. This was when I had my 95 accord 5mt. I got to Lafayette late at night and went in the house and slept. The next day my brother woke me up saying that there was a dead bird on my bumper. I went to look and I had hit a Bat so hard that it splattered on my bumper and stuck there like a big bug. It was dried out and peeled off in one piece in the shape of the grill.

Off topic but I thought someone would laugh

The irony is that I dont know whats worst in NJ: The deer population OR the Canadian Geese epidemic.

Frickin geese invade most public parks and corporate/college campuses, attack children (though provoked sometimes), fly into moving cars (males-mating season) and crap EVERY 7 MINUTES (quoted from Newark Star Ledger). You cant set foot on the grass of any NJ park without stepping in green s--t. But if you run one over on ANY NJ roadway (whether small street or GS Pkwy), you can be fined. sorry just had to vent....
