Decreasing your curb weight really does help!

Start with this and get a baseline run of 16.3 @84 mph.

Remove a little weight and run 14.3 @93 mph

on the subject...how much weight could be shed from the cl and focusing on the front. light weight battery, re postioned to rear what 20lbs savings, carbon fibre hood weight savings ? lighter wheels 50 lbs possibility there f/r combined...the headers probablly save alittle over cast iron manifold ,cai has to be lighter than stock air box ...pulleys 8 lbs i know where approachin 100 lbs if not more... any other ideas

1. Lexan/plexi windows.

2. Start ripping the carpet and seats out and put in racing shells.

3. Open a titanium operation and replace all the rotating and reciprocating parts with titanium (where applicable).

4. Definitly toss the sunroof with motor, etc. (just weld in a chunk of sheet metal and paint to suit...

5. Move to 15x7" magnesium rims with drag slicks.

6. Kick the rear seat out of the car (or make it easy to remove for "race days"...

7. Move to the Brembos or at least have someone make a drilled rotor with an aluminum hat (don't forget the drilling)

8. More Titanium in the sprung weight/suspension department.

...

The pulleys are more effective in 1st gear and less effective in 3rd and so on... (allready rambled on about this).

The wheels/tires are worth about 3x the weight loss -- the SSRs are worth 50-60 lbs (12 less lbs per rim 1-3 lbs per tire) x 4. The equivalent static weight is around 3x depending on a bunch of stuff... (Figure 180 lbs equiv dead weight loss). The gain is the "same" in every gear.

Sunroof raises the CG, reduces headroom, and I would have passed on it if I could have. In some of the old "upgrade" jobs, it would add around 50 lbs (due to the motor, sheet metal, etc). IMO, you wouldn't get that much from ours just by gutting out the unit (motor, slides/mechanism, metal bits, etc).

Dump the power mirrors.

AS I said, power seats have motors and are HEAVY -- put in carbon-fiber shells.

If you think the pulleys help, you would surely want to find somebody to grab some titanium rods with a "crank job"
(Hey, with the weight loss, add a dry sump and raise the rev limit with an AEM ECU...)

Finally, why didn't I just look here first:

Have fun

Just go "plastic" with carbon fiber, Astroturf, and a plastic tarp for rainy days...

It’s probably a: back-to-open-air-retro-pseudo-sport-pretender-metal-soapbox-coupe

I bet it looks great with the soft top up

Which issue of SCC is that in?????

Yes, but is it faster with the sunroof open or closed? That is, if it's open then the weight's not there 'cause you can't see it. But if it's closed the slipstream is improved.

EricL, one thing you forgot to mention, was removal of the AC unit. Big weight reduction there from the front of the car.

I didn't see a , I hope you're joking...

Yea, I always notice how the performance of the car improves with the hood down. I always figured it was due to aero issues. Now I finally understand that the hood hides the engines mass from those nasty gravitons...

Quite true... Doh!

I'm sure there are even more lumps that I forget about... I also "forgot" to mention a hole drilling session...

I'd put Astroturf in the car before I tossed the A./C...

But, if I move to the North Pole, I would consider it....

I really was serious about the sunroof...
