Decreasing Gas Milage

I have a 2001 CL-S stock. I used to get between 29 and 31 MPG consistently. My driving patterns have not changed and suddenly, for the past two months, I get no better than 24 and change MPG. Something has definately changed.

My car has about 78,000 miles on it. Any ideas?

Thanks for the help,
Elliot

Just the obvious ones. Check the air filter, clean out the fuel injection system. Also, I always get a little better when it's cold, and it's warming up a bit. Have you ever changed your spark plugs?

I have exactly the same situation. To clean the injectors is it a waste of time for the stuff in a can, or should I go to a Midas or something like that and get the injectors cleaned by them?

I'm off work next week so I planned on changing out the plugs and air cleaner as a start.
Thanks Glenn

Yeh, that's what I meant. Get them cleaned somewhere.

I cleaned my K&N filter last week hoping that would do the trick. Apparently not.

What does changing the spark plugs have to do with my gas mileage? And EGR? What's that?

Thanks for the suggestions.. Now I need help understanding them!

Also check tire pressures and wear which may indicate needing an alignment.

It's that clean burn mixture the EPA made all the refineries use for their gas.
Less emissions, lower gas milege.
First found in big cities, now probably everywhere.

Are you serious? If I get between 23 and 24 mpg then that's really good, for me anyways. Is there something I'm doing wrong or...(fuel injectors possibly). I only get between 23-24 mpg when I drive 75% freeway 25% city with the AC off too.

That's not too bad. I get about 18 mpg, but I do a lot of city driving. If I'm doing all highwaw, I'll get about 10 mpg more.

I usually get about 19-20 mpg and that's either all city driving or hwy with stop and go traffic. But when I take a vacation and make a drive to from Phoenix to LA, I get about 28-29 mpg.

And that's stock and driving conservatively.
