Decided to Stay a CL Owner, But....

I'll be picking up a black '03 6-Speed soon. I just need to take off all of the parts on my car, intake, headers, pulleys, sways, RES and the amp. So I need to get the gaskets for the header swapping tomorrow and then do all of the labor on Sunday.

After contemplating losing the room by going to an M Roadster along with the fact that I love the engine in this car I decided to stay with the CL but get into a manual. Plus, the dealer is making a pretty good deal for me so it helps the decision; payments are going down with basically nothing out of pocket.

Anyway, this means the long over due dyno of my RES should take place on an '03 Black/Black 6-Speed. I'm going to shoot for next week sometime next week, more on that when confirmed.

But boy will this be fun, about five hours to remove everything and then another five to put everything on the new car....

awesome congrats man!

I'm a bit confused though, how are you going to swap your headers? I thought they don't fix in a 6MT? Comptech anyway. Or did I confuse your usage of swap, meaning headers back for old exhaust manifolds.

HEH, one person with the RES mod, how much do you think it added?

I'm glad your sticking around we need no more tech tid bits from you! Anyways, congrats about your upcoming 6spd CL-S, and for the record do you think you should wait after the break in period before putting the goodies? You might shock the engine with all your performance parts LOL!!!:P

I'd rather not take a guess at increases, too many variables. But I do feel there has been gains but it is an unusual aspect.

It feels that with the increased volume it is harder to 'build' the resonance charge and requires more revs. It feels like things 'come alive' at 3500 revs and at WOT. Also, if I don't have enough throttle and dip into it a bit more I get a small thrust like there is too much restriction to allow the resonance and opening it a bit breaks the barrier.

I'll be taking some measurements when pulling them off and then rough fitting them to the 6-Speed. If things aren't too far out of whack I'll make some modification and make then fit.

If it looks like it won't work then I'll certainly hook an automatic owner.

Thanks typer, yes I do know some people who can certainly make the needed changes. Also, I'm not shy of cutting and welding if needed...

CONGRATS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The six speed is a good choice!! Glad you will be sticking around the CL board!!!

Your headers WILL NOT fit on your new six speed!!! They have a new set just for the 6 speed. One of the pipes did not fit, due to the LSD I think!!! I am not exactly sure why. I really don't think you can modify it. Tim at ACP has the new ones on the site.

GOOD LUCK!!!

Can't wait to see your dyno on the SCALBERT RES!!!!

Keep us posted!!

I was sure they wouldn't fit however I was also told that the TL intake wouldn't fit. That took five minutes on the band saw and the problem was solved. Now I know it will be more difficult with heavy stainless but it is just metal piping.

As mentioned before, a little bending, cutting and welding is not a problem. The question is if the modifications would cost more than selling a used auto systems and buying a new one??? But I suspect I can get it done for little $$$ but I can't say for sure until I crawl under the new car.

I too can't wait for the dyno with the RES, it has been too long since I built it and without any hard numbers...

heheh, no pics....

I was in the hole on my original trade and bough one of the first new CL's from the dealer when released. My car was actually the one at the Atlanta Auto Show in late Feb. '00.

At the time they weren't willing to haggle so I paid sticker plus some being negative with my trade. Now they do negotiate pricing and I'm not in the red on the trade. Plus I never said no money down, just practically nothing...

Oh yea, terms are the same...

If you dont mind me asking, how much did you owe on your car and how many miles did you have? I have a 2001 with 12k miles and just wondering if a trade to a 6spd would be plausible without my payments shooting from $560 a month to well over 600
