Debadging gone bad.

I just tried to debadge and it was a complete failure. Not only was there scratches but the letter marks on the car are still there. The adhesive didnt come off easy at all. And some is still there. The only letter that looks good is the "U" but thats got the outline of the "u" on it. I tried greased lightning, Gas and windex for the goo removal. The gas worked best but nothing else did.
So what do I do now!! Do I have to live with a shitty looking trunk now..... This is going to suck. Please someone help!:o

Perhaps a mildly abrasive polish, or paint cleaner. Try Meguiar's Deep Crystal System Paint Cleaner, followed by their polish, and then wax over it. Should minimize the appearance.

you mean you want Acura to repair your trunk under warranty due to theft? that would be like me taking my car back there saying "my radio got stolen and they broke the window and messed up the dash. Will you fix it?"

get real

he just said repair. nothing about warranty. I have thought about doing the same thing, but I never got around to debadging. They would certainly give you another badge and put it on, but at a cost.

debadge? put a hair dryer to the badging for a SHORT while (long enough to soften the glue tho) then use dental floss to go behind the badges, and the badges will fall off. THen use Goo Gone (not gas ) to take off the remaining glue residue.

Use your thumb nail and some elbow grease. Then some goo gone....get the "sticker lifter kit", it comes with a plastic scraper. Then buff it some McGuires #9....thats what I had to do!

When you "pried" the letters off, did you use any heat before hand? That is the best way.

I had mine for 3 years before I realized the A C U R A was on crooked. The left side was a 1/2" higher than the right! :o

Don't worry, use a heat gun, if you don't have one, then get a high wattage hairdryer.

I was helping my cousin debadging his 02 maxima, it was pain, the adhesive won't come off, so i heated it up with the heatgun, those bitch can then be taken off using ur finger nails. be aware truck can be hot after heating up.

Good luck!

After you take all the letters off, and the glue. You should claybar it. Then use mothers swirl remover. The use pure wax. Should look just like new.

When I did mine I just let the car sit in the sun and get nice and hot. The letters pulled off easily. Then I just rubbed the excess glue with my finger. It kind of rolled up like a buger and then I could just pull it off. Got the rest of the residue with some bug and tar remover. Finished off with some Meguiars #7 and wax. My car was brand new though. If you have shadows where the letters were they should buff out easily. I would try some Meguiars #3. A buffer will make it easy but you should be able to do it by hand since it's a fairly small area.

I had a noticable outline of the CL Type-S badges left on my trunk when I pulled mine off, too. I ended up using 3M Scratch Remover to fix it, and it worked perfectly.

Get some 3M Adhesive Remover, it's petroleum based, but works better than gas. I would also check out some paint cleaner like meguiars to take out the scratches-

I don't know how my dealer did it, but you might want to call a dealer to get some recs. on what to do. (I took delivery of my car de-badged last October, no marks or scrathces at no charge)

This says it all, goo gone and your thumb nail and so on. My letters left alot of foam but I got them off doing the above.
It took a few hours until all the glue was removed.
Then use some cleaner wax and an orbital buffer. My letters showed in the paint as well but the buffer works wonders.
Now you can't tell anything was there and it looks much better.

Dude.... first off, like someone else said this wont work. More importantly, dont get it fixed because if this is done right, you will love the way the car looks debadged. Use a buffer if you have one and it will take care of the "outline" of the letters. If you dont have a buffer... swing by your nearest detail shop and ask the owner if he can buff that section for you. it shoud take about 3-4 minutes and if he is cool enough he wont/shouldnt charge you. good luck

And, if he does help you out, without charging you, make sure you tip him nicely.

Ok well I fallowed your instructions, I used goof off and it worked. still needed to be rubbed but it worked. The car looks kick ass now I love the look. After doing that I polished and waxed it with meguires products. There is still a shadow in a few of the letters, but not to noticable. Over all Im happy with it.! Thanks guys.
