Dealership quote for headers installation

OMFG. I seriously cannot believe the quote I just got from my Acura dealership to get my CT Headers installed. I was speaking to one of the service advisors and she initially quoted me $470, which I thought was kinda pricey, but I hadn't gotten much better quotes elsewhere. Then she asked me which parts exactly I needed installed, and I told her both headers and the A-pipe (I think thats right), then she put me on hold for like 10 mins, and came back and told me the quote had been bumped up to $875!!!! I asked her if she was shitting me, and she said that it had something to do with the parts they had to take off and put back on. I was so pissed. I was ready to go in and get it done...

The worst part is that I only have a carport to work in, and its on an incline, so I don't want to risk doing it myself. I don't even have jack stands, or anyone to help me. Man, this sucks. The shops I've asked around here haven't really worked on Acuras, so i don't know if I can trust them.
(end rant)

If you pay more than $180 to have headers installed you're getting raped.

My dealership initially quoted me $180 but I talked them down to $120

$875!?! That's 10 hours of labor they are billing you for a job that takes them at most 2 man-hours to complete. Are you sure their quote wasn't including new OEM headers? Did she not understand?

The header install is pretty straight forward. I would take the $200 you could spend on paying someone to do it and invest in jackstands and a jack. You'll find you use them over and over again.

I would try it by myself, but I don't have anywhere to do it, or the proper tools. I share a carport, and its not even level. I'll try and shop around for a place tomorrow. Thanks for the suggestions guys.

If anyone needs help for beers around here I would put some headers on for you. No one around here has a CL and I never get hit up for local help. What a loss.

Maybe go to the all-Cali meet in a couple weeks (4/29?), and see if you can find a couple guys to help you out? Good luck!

It might even be worth calling the dealership again and explaining that you don't need any parts at all, just an installation. I don't think they understood what you were looking for.

Probably $4-500 plus the cost of the alignment.

Installing springs and struts on our cars is pretty labor intensive since you need to remove the rear seats.

Like I said spend the money that you would on labor having them installed and buy the proper tools including jack and stands. Then take it to a buddy's house so you have an extra set of hands.

If you can turn a wrench you can install the headers. That's really all that's involved. A few nuts and bolts.

Sounds like the dealership doesn't like to do mod installs... They probably figure with a quote like they can scare you away...

Keep calling around... you should be able to find someone to install 'em for $200. PM some local people to see w/ headers to see who did their install. Check the meet forum (there's a couple of active CA threads) to find local members... or just straight up ask for shop recommendations in the meet threads...

I bet if you ask around you can find someone in your area that'd be willing to help you do it or maybe even someone within driving distance that'd be willing to do it for a couple bucks and some brews.

I was going to install mine myself, i have all the tools i need, however, i dont have the luxury of time anymore with the new born crying and such.. so I made buddies with a local honda service guy... and score the hook up for $100 and best of all, i dont have to miss baby time. moral of the story... go to a honda dealer and ask around for a tech that does side work...it could save you lots of cash and TIME.

Call around to some local muffler shops, and even stop by the local Honda dealer. I know mine is about half the price for labor of the acura dealer.

Ok, I went in to talk to the dealership again, to make sure there wasn't some kind of misunderstanding....There wasn't a misunderstanding. The service director or something came out to talk to me and said some BS about quoting me $650 to take the OEM exhaust manifold off, and an additional $75 to put on the aftermarket headers...blah blah blah. Anyway, he also mentioned that it might take longer cause they've never installed headers there and they don't know if there were any fitment issues, and some other crap like that. And that they'd give me back the stock headers in case I had to get the car smogged. I was so heated. I told the dude that Comptech did a bunch of R&D and that the headers are CARB legal/certified and that there wouldn't be any fitment issues. He didn't want to budge. Then he implied that if the headers messed up something on my car then I'd void my warranty. OMG I was so fucking mad. I ended up telling him that I'd just get it done somewhere else. I'm pretty sure they're quoting me a rediculous amount so that I don't get it done, like Kyle said.

What really upset me is that up until now, the service I've gotten there has been top notch. Oh well, I'm asking around the Bay Area forum to see if I can get some help from a local member. Thanks again for your input guys.

I got my headers installed today, finally! The car sounds awesome. I ended up paying $300 for the installation. The cheapest place I could find was $90/hour. I don't think I would have been able to do this.

Don't worry you're not alone. I paid $340 to have mine put on and I love to install things myself on my cars, but it is what it is. Enjoy your new found power and sound!

Tischer Acura of Maryland- $585 for Header/B-pipe installation. Supposedly the technician quoted 7.5 hours.

Also: $45 Handbrake adjustment, $445 Headlight replacement for condensation, $770 for 2 replacement wheels. YGBFKM....You gotta be fucking kidding me!!

The quote from Tischer is nuts. I paid $120 a few years back for headers.

Handbrake adjustment, headlight replacement, and wheel replacement seem reasonable though.

List price on OEM wheels is $220/each plus the cost of mounting and balancing per tire can be as much as $100. Okay I guess that price is pretty steep too.

They've completely overhauled their service writers there. I haven't been there in well over a year.

I don't even know if Lenny is running service there or not.

Brandon moved on a while ago and now works at Lexus of Annapolis.

They used to do aftermarket installs for $60/hour but I'm not sure if their pricing and labor structure is the same as it was nearly 3 years ago. I wouldn't expect it to be.

Tischer's service department isn't what it used to be.

Called up there and got Lenny's voicemail. Not sure how often they change that, but I'm supposed to be getting a call back. If anything I'll get them to replace the bolts for an hour of labor and just do the rest myself. Already went the DIY route and couldn't get a nut off the A pipe which screwed the whole deal. They're supposed to be calling back with some time of solution, but I don't see it going down enough to where I'll let them handle everything. I might just look into Annapolis or a local muffler shop.

Speaking of service not what it use to be. As I'm walking up to the counter yesterday, some guy peels off IN the service bay (Nissan side) in a truck. I wanted to turn around right there and leave. It wasn't exactly the "oops" kind of breaking traction either.

So I've had my headers on for over a week now, and I've noticed that the idle is a little bit rougher than before. Is this normal? It's just barely noticeable. Other than that the car is running great.
