It should be called a "recovery of some of the dealer profit since he had to give you the impression that he is giving you a good price on the car."
I was hit with an admin fee of $90, window etching of $90 and wheel-locks for $125 (I think) at the dealer with no prior mention of it. I complained to the salesman about the etch and the wheel locks and he gave them too me free. I did not complain about the admin because I was an out of state buyer and the gal doing the paper work spent a few hours fighting with my insurance company assisting in the registration process. They earned that one.
So, you can fight it an say you are not paying it or consider it as part of the price. Depends how big a hardass you want to be.

I agree, they tried to get me for the window etching so I told them to take it off. They said they couldn't it was something they do to all of the cars on the lot incase they get stolen. So he had to give it to me. But I rather of had the mud guards for free instead of the stupid window etching. Like any Philly cop is going to be bothered with looking at the f*ching windows anyway!!!

i dont think the window etching is that bad of a deal, it lowers your insurance so it pretty much pays for itself and if the car is stolen and is not found within 30 days you get like $5000

Police depts do etching for free but if the car is stolen most insurance co's do not give you any money. If the etching is done at the dealer, most insurance co's pay about $5000.

I have to say that we do get treated badly at the dealer for buying a $30k luxo car. Its like buying a ford with all these hidden nickle and dime fees that pop-up at the very end of the buying experience. Acura wants to up their reputation, then here is a great place to start, stop with the $90 crap after plunking down $30k.
Visit a lexus dealer, you get none of this end of sale surprise crap.

My insurance company said that the etching discount is less than the other discounts that I was already getting and that I had "maxed" out the available discount level. I have a multiple cars, multiple policies, alarm, Volvo Owner Program, multiple years and some other stuff that maxes out what is possible.
BTW, I have no idea what a conveyance fee is. They will probably say it's an admin fee.

i asked him what it was, he said "its just a fee" i said yea i know its a fee its called dealer conveyence FEE, he said yea its just like a dealer fee everybody has it. i said i never heard of it but what is it a fee for?!:!??! he said its just a fee, its like a dealer fee, its a dealer prep fee. so basically he said its just a way to make back $179 since he sold me the car about 500 under invoice. i didnt feel like arguing and since all the paperwork was basically done all i had to do was sign it and pay, i just payed it.
