Dash Rattle

Ok here's the deal. My dash has been rattling bad for about six months. It is rattling where the dash meets the winshield. The dash acually moves/vibrates up and down and when the dash slaps against the windshield it makes noise. I shoved a piece of cardboard in between the dash and windshield one day and the it fixed it. I am not about to have a piece of cardboard sticking out o my dash.
So I take it to the dealer just to see if they have maybe fixed this kind of problem before. Anyway a service tech and I are on a drive so I can show him what I am talking about. He notices the movement of the dash and the noise. He tells me "I don't know what I can do, the dash is supposed to move". I asked him to say that again. He did. So I asked why is a dash supposed to move. No answer. I then asked what the tolerences are. This just pissed him off.
I did not want him working on my car so I just left when we got back to the dealer.

My question.. has anyone else had this problem? How did you fix it? Any suggestions?????????????????????????????

I had the same problem, I inserted rubber eraser in the same place you are describing, the rattling went away or got much better.
I was planning to go to the dealer and explain to them that by sticking something in between windshield and front dash it eliminates the rattle.......
But now after what you are describing I don't know if they will do anything for me
Maybe just leave my rubber eraser permantly in, just cut it off so it does not stick out and almost invisible ( if you stick it deep enough).

Another suggestion, you don't want your dealer taking apart your dash too much, I don't trust those pot heads that working on your car, if they mess up something it might rattle even more....

funny thing...I just took mine in this morning for the same type of complaint. Not only did they fix the rattle (supposedly...time will tell) in the dash, they added extra insulation to the rear speaker deck and in the roof around the moonroof.

Did they ask you to reproduce the problem, or they knew imeadeatly what you are talking about.

Sharing is caring........... If you can please shed some light on a possible fix.

I was thinking maybe that spray foam that expands. Anyone ever work with this stuff? How messy is it?

I have been able to fix ALL of my other rattles except this one....

That's a bunch of BS, sticking an eraser in in that dash… Number one. Is cold where your at? If so, you'll get some little rattles and creeks until it warms up. Number two, I can almost guarantee exactly what your problem is. Why? Because I had the same thing happen when the car had 2k miles on it.

Problem-- Dash pad is not placed under dash correctly.

Solution-- Remove dash, straighten padding, put more if needed.

FYI-- Mine was covered fully under warranty.

I had mentioned a dash rattle to them last week during my 7500 mile service, they took it for a drive and low-and-behold the dash rattled (that's usually the time it won't make any noise). All was covered under warranty.

The only info they gave on the dash rattle was what they did to reach the problem. I definitely had more than the creak/rattle, it was a nice clunking when the defroster wasn't on. They adjusted vents and the passenger side airbag...but they didn't go into great detail about what the problem was. My guess is they weren't sure either. I'm not the type to question a whole lot...just fix the problem.

It's butt a** cold here, which results in everything making noise. Our wonderful Michigan roads don't help either.

My car is still under warranty, so is this dash problem. It just makes me nervous to have some quack tearing my dash apart. Especially a quack that tells me the dash is supposed to move.
Usually it is easier for me to fix a minor problem than to deal with Acura Service Dept.

they made it sound as if they didn't have to do much digging around in there. I would have a hard time trusting that serviceman also...what dash is supposed to move THAT much? sure

Did they try to reproduce your dash rattle, or they knew what to do as soon as you mentioned it.
My car rattles and squeaks in a lot of places, its hopeless to fight them... I have squeaks in my side windows (rear seat) every time I hit a bump, sometimes it goes away sometimes it stays.
and it seems to be comming from different locations ( i had passenger in the back listening).
Just give up fighting with your rattles... that's the way they make those cars.....
