Damn 55mph signs ... fellow Houstonians you know what i'm talking about!!

Damnit I just saw them putting them up by work (249 and Louetta), dropping from 70mph down to 55mph. That seriously, seriously, seriously sucks

I'm pretty sure that's not going to do jack sh#$ for our nasty pollution problem, come on like give me a serious break!! How much NOX will that actually reduce?

Just had to vent, and thought this was the ideal place to do it since now I can't drive (legally!!! that is) over 55mph. Now someone explain to me, how going the same speed as the feeder road makes sense to anyone??

To be honest, I never really pay attention to the speed limits...I drive at whats comfortable...on the freeway, on a clear day, I'll cruise around 80...whatever's comfortable...I depend alot on the Valentine

I know it sucks! My average speed on the highway is 75-80. The city is to spread out for a 55 mph speed limit...time to get V-1.

Damn, I know exactly where you are talking about. They were still 70 MPH when I left for work at about 7:15 AM. I drive 249 from Louetta to the Beltway M-F. I can usually cruise along with the rest of the traffic doing 80-85 MPH. I'll watch out for them this evening. I sure hope that the local police/sherriffs don't make this into a speed trap.

JSuppi, do you live in that area also or do you just work at that big computer company ( no names) at Louetta and 249. I live about 2 miles from there.

Well..

I work (for the time being that is!!! ) @ the big computer company. Sucks for me because of my commute which usually takes me down 290 (which they decided to change the limit as well), down the beltway then down 249

Damn i'm going to haveto be careful, or my insurance company is just going to love me.

I love how they always go after cars. Like all those oil refineries don't pollute.

I remember when they raised the speed limit from 55 to 65. The average speed didn't change one bit. Everyone did 65-80 before and after the change. There's a guy in TX that's done research and found out that 72mph is the ideal speed limit since its like 95th percentile of speed. Makes sense to me. Of course, that was probably done before cars like the CL came along. Maybe they should make that 82mph then.

reducing the speed limit certainly isn't going to help the fact that hundreds of thousands of cars sit lined up on the freeways every morning and afternoon idling for hours at a time...

of course, building a light rail system between the astrodome and downtown (?!?!) isn't going to get folks living in clear lake, the woodlands, kingwood, westside, katy, etc. out of their cars and into public transportation. I still can't understand why metro didn't undertake the light rail experiment along an existing commuter corridor (houston now owns the old m.k.t. rail right-of-way along the katy freeway, after all) where it might actually have had a benefit, even in it's experimental stages.

: I'm not sure this is really ment to help with polution. Chemical plants in our area do 99% of the poluting. Everyone knows that. The chemical plants have deep pockets and because of that will eventually get the laws changed so they do not have to comply. Money talks and BS walks.
