I used to keep it is D4 when i first got it, but found that i got better gas mileage in the city when i kept it in D5(i think). I use the SS once in a while, but its not the same as a manual. so for the most part, D5.
i picked d4 .... it really depends... sport shift half the time (also during racing) ...... d4 on the freeway if i'm just cruising , i hate how the auto tran takes me all the way to fifth gear by 40 mph...

Your telling me on the highway if your just cruising along at a steady speed you'll hold it in 3rd or 4th? Now thats :ghey:
my brother and i noticed a feelign of a 6th gear while in sport shift, unless the display doesnt exactly say the right gear. while in 5th with SS after releasing the gas you feel a little slight gear change, i doubt its anything but it deffinitely feels liek a gear change while it stays in 5th

i get pretty good mileage too. i got 340 miles (pre-gas light) out of the tank i burned during the WC meet.
SS -- saving the tranny. Old news...
SS.
If you use it to change gears all the time, count of having your gearbox wear out quickly.
If you use it to MINIMIZE the number of gear shifts, count on it to help save your clutch packs. The less you use them, the less wear there is on them.
This is not a fix for the tranny problems However, the clutch packs see wear during gear changes. If you use SS to reduce the number of gear changes, you are going to help with wear.
D4 and SS will reduce mileage, but can also help to reduce tranny shifts are wear at the expense of gas mileage.
If you use SS to do nasty engine braking, count on having more wear.
YMMV
