Cutting CT springs...

does anyone know what would happen if I was to cut a little piece of the CT springs to achieve just a .25 inch more of a drop in the front and rear? Would the handling and ride quality jsut go to total $hit or would there be just a slight loss. I know people used to cut (maybe still now) their springs all the time on their car and the ride would be bumpy as hell, but I wonder if I could do that the CT springs to get a slighly lower drop but maintain the overall effectiveness of the springs? Thank you and have a wonderful day!

oh, and if you do cut 'em use a cutoff wheel, not a torch.

Don't cut your springs...wrong way to lower car. If you want car lower, then buy springs that are designed to lower car right. Or buy coilovers and you can adjust to the height you like.

Well as far as coilovers...I like the CT springs and want to keep a certain uniformity as far as products on my car. Actually I probably won't cut my spings, just curious for future reference as to what effects whether it be slightly negative or imenseley (sp) negative. It's always good to know. If only the CT springs had been just .25 or even .20 lower...oh well...I guess CT had a reason for why they chose that height. Thanks all!

Comptech designed their springs to meet 3 objectives.

1. Overall ride comfort is maintained.
2. Able to use stock shocks
3. Able to maintain alienment specs

If you were to lower the car anymore, you propably should upgrade the shocks to adjustable ones. I bought the eibach pro-kit springs with adjustable shocks and they lowered the car a bit more then the comptechs. Put I'm able to adjust the ride comfort with the shocks.

I would go ahead and cut them. You will suffer no side effects, guaranteed. I had nearly 3 coils cut on my CL before the hydraulics went in and it rode great. The reason cars with cut spings ride bad is either because they are a progressive spring and all of the softer portion of the spring was cut off, or they cut the spring so much the car was bottom out on the bump stop. That can be solved by cutting down the bump stop. Go ahead and do it...you're not talking about cutting too much at all. It'll be fine.
