CUSTOM DOWNPIPE FOR 01'03' CL & CL-Type S

Hello Everyone,
I am posting this thread because I have some great news and I would like to get some feedback from all of you! Well, as most of you know, all 01'-03' CL & CL-Type S have a design flaw in the downpipe. For those of you who don't know what the downpipe is, it is the pipe that bolts on to the headers and to the CAT. The way the stock downpipe was design and the way it sits in the car, causes our bomb ass ride to lose MAJOR HORSEPOWER! Comptech has recently designed a new downpipe that fixed the design flaw, but it is only available with the headers and costs $1000-$1300. I just recently purchased the Dual Greddy Catback Exhaust System for my 03' CL-Type S 6 Speed, and after I finished installing it, I took it to my hommie's shop to have the car lfted and tested for exhaust leaks. While the car was lifted, my friend took a look at the downpipe and told me the I was losing MAJOR HORSEPOWER from the downpipe because of the stupid design. He told me that he could CUSTOM DESIGN a new downpipe with 3' pipe that would definitely increase my HP by 20-25HP!! I asked my friend if I should also get the headers, and he told me that I really didn't need them because all the HP loss is due to downpipe. So I am here to announce to all of you that there is going to be a NEW CUSTOMIZED DOWNPIPE for 01'-03' CL & CL-Type S! My friend asked me to Market this new downpipe for his shop, Raceway Motorsports, and see how many of you would be interested in purcahsing this CUSTOMIZED DOWNPIPE. So what I would like to know from all of you is, would you guys be interested? He is going to sell it for $350-375, which in my opinion is one hell of a deal for a 20-25 HP gain!! So please let me know what you all think. Thank you for all you time.

Your CL-Type S hommie,

PS: I will post pics of my Greddy System soon plus pic's of the CUSTOMIZED DOWNPIPE. Again, I would like to know what you all think. You can either reply to this thread or PM me.

I didnt think there was enough of a bottleneck with the exhaust on our cars, so I think 20-25 HP may be a little over zealous, maybe like 5-10 HP, but Id love to see a dyno

comptech headers give 20-25hp. If your design can compete with that at a performance AND quality level then people will be interested!

How is his design so much different from Greddy's that it warrants a 25+ HP difference ( since you were losing HP, and the fact that this new design gives you 20-25 HP)
?????

To do this right, you would have to post before and after dynos for the downpipe only (with stock exhaust). That way everyone is convinced that they are getting whatever hp for the $350-$375. I already have headers but if the downpipe is still robbing me of potential power then I'd be interested in this custom downpipe as long as the numbers make sense.

I can't believe that a company like Comptech that spends mad $$ on R&D has that big of an issue with it's downpipe.

As blackmagiCL_S said, you gotta post dynos.

Just wondering, but won't the larger diameter downpipe cause a huge loss in low-end power (reduced backpressure)?

Before anyone is even gonna consider it you need like blackmagicCL_S said, before and after dynos and pics to back it up. If it works however this wold be a great mod.

Do not waste your time, OBX and now Stone headers are available complete set 2 headers + downpipe... excellent results... at a great price.

BTW, your friend is wrong!... the Gains are in the headers' Collector design and not only in the downpipe. True there is some nusty directional flow change in the stock downpipe. However, The stock headers (shorty boxers design) are not tuned for high end gains!

Stone headers showed some at least 20-25WHP!. Delivery of the first GB order is now very close, within the next 2 weeks.

if you go witha a big diameter design, you will gain more hp but it will all be up high and we would loose crazy torque

What's the difference between Comptech's down pipe, & the stock one? I didn't notice a difference looks wise when I put the Comptech's on.

I would like the gain up high for the track, but I don't race nearly enough to warrant it...I don't think. Do we have enough torque to lose.

he said the issue with the comp down pipe is you have to spend 1000-1300$ to get it ...he's trying to say all the gains are it the down pipe not the exhaust manifold...which i dont believe...but a dyno would prove me wrong

I don't care how much they give "in place of the headers"...I wanna know how much they give WITH headers. I always thought that our downpipes were pretty good...oh well. Like mane y have said, how much low end power would we lose...I don't want to have to be at 4000 rpms just to get some power.

Like blackmagiCLS said...before and after dynos would be necessary but the interest is there, if it produces usable gains.

The only thing that I saw that seemed to me to be a small restriction in aftermarket headers is the rear down pipe (after the rear colectors. It comes down, goes 2" to the front, then makes a 90 degree turn to the left, that is if u are looking at the headers from up above and ur head is pointing toward the front of the car. I have always been curious as to why the headers were never made to that the rear down pipe didn't just transition with the front down pipe, i.e. buy simply going to the rear of the car rather than going up and in. Maybe it was so that the headers could be close to equal length .

If someone knows what I am talking about could u please post a pic and circle the area that I talking about. Tnx.

Oh and do something about that FKin Y-pipe at the rear axle, I think it need to be at least 2.25", maybe 2.5" .

ok guys, lets make one thing clear. Not here to be an ass, but I'm the only one with a confirmed DOWN-PIPE here. It's a freaking A-Pipe.

The problem is with the exhaust runners... NOT the downpipe!!
