Custom CAI pics... what do you think?

Hi guys,

Got a custom CAI done by L&R Racing here in Vancouver. http://www.lr-racing.com/

I am very impressed. Love the sound. And it's stainless.
Saved heaps of money....

What do you think??

Lowell does great welding.
He makes custom cat-backs as well, and can use whatever muffler you'd like. I'm definitely thinking of getting a custom exhaust.

Cheers.

did you do a before and after dyno to see if their design actually produced any gains? It may have worked or it may have not added anything and only gives you cool sounds.

It looks nice.

Did you have a “hook up” there for the job?
I would imagine a piece like that made of STN STL would cost a pretty penny especially if welding is required.

Good point. I should of... but didn't.
Sure felt like I got a gain though... But you're right, I should of got it dyno'd.

Dyno cost here is $100.... quite expensive in my mind.

Cheers.

But without a dyno, you don't know if the CAI is robbing you of power...

May be worth the $100...

Na, just been talking to the guy for quite a while and since he's the owner he's smart enough to know he'll be getting more business from me.

Ya, he does a great job welding... you can barely see the connections. Total cost was $200 CDN installed. So $127 USD. Not bad for STN STL... What do you think?

I'm actually very impressed with his rates. $60 CDN/hr. ($38 USD). He's a small shop but busy as hell. The guy works 7 days a week... And just loves it as a hobby. He was more excited to hear how the intake sounded than I was!

Cheers.

Lowell is definitely a cool guy. He still has his DSM... That thing is fast! 11.4 on the 1/4 without NOS! Youch!
He always has nice cars outside his shop... It's like a car show when you go there.

I'm guessing that's all TIG welded. He did an awesome job, looks like a skilled fabricator.

Ya, screw the bypass... hehe. My thoughts exactly
I was told that you basically need to submerge your filter in water anyway. And well, the chances of that are next to none!

do you have any pics of the CAI before it was installed so we can see the entire thing??? i think it would be neat to see the entire thing....is it a 3" pipe??? thats the standard CAI pipe size for our cars.

Stainless steel conducts heat...kinda defeats the purpose of having a CAI if the pipe is freakin' 200 degrees.

Pipe never gets hot. Gets a bit warm after driving around all day... but never hot. Doubt it would be enough to affect it.

Have a look at the thermal conductivity tables... Aluminum conducts heat way faster. It's not even close.

OK I would understand that the pipe would only get warm....if u are on the free way. But what about when u get stoped at a light, or stuck in traffic where air flow is reduced. But I can kinda see ur point SS vs. Aluminum, but still.

It would be benificial to u to get the think thermo coated, the powder coating/baking process, type.

When I click on the link I do not see any pics of your CAI. All I see the L & R Racing Homepage.

Ya, stupid Village Photo's only lets the pics be viewed so much in one day. Need to find a better place to host.
