Curious About The 6-speed

I love my auto and I plan on keeping it till I drive it into the ground. But, I am curious about one thing. Given that it's a manual transmission, would it still have a rev-limiter in it? Even with the auto putting about 200 hp at the wheels, the RPMs get up to redline pretty quick. I assume that the manual will be putting about 220 hp to the wheels and reaching redline all that much more quick. Or, do you think Acura will make first gear a tad taller so drivers won't accidentally rev it past redline and blow the engine?

I'm sure it will still have a limiter. My friend's 99 Prelude SH (manual) has one.

It will absolutely have a rev limiter, shouldn't have any idiot lights or beeps though.

I'm willing to bet you all that they use the six-speed from the new RSX Type S. I just hope they beef it up sufficiently to handle the extra torque and HP created by the TL-S and CL-S. If this is in fact the Honda/Acura game plan, I'd wait a couple months and let a few others be the guinea pigs. Personally, I drive in NY/NJ and wouldn't get a stick in my daily driver.

If it has a decent final drive ratio I think it could be 1/2 a second faster 0-60.

I love this topic b/c it is so intriguing to me to guess on what the performance increase will be.

If we take 6.4 as a magazine average 0-60 I think we will see 5.9 seconds 0-60 just by being able to drop the clutch and launch hard. This, of course, is quite dependent upon the tire situation. So, I think a theoretical gain of 1/2 second is possible.

Now, in the 1/4 mile I think that most of the time gained would be in the 0-60. Our 2nd and third gears are pretty good already for running at the track. So, if we take 15.0 to be a magazine average in the 1/4mile, then subtract the 0.5 second for the 0-60 gain and factor in the additional horsepower at the wheels, the ability to shift quicker and the weight savings....I would estimate 14.3-14.4, tires not withstanding. Fully modded--13.9. JZ

I'm thinking that it would more likely have the 6spd from an NSX...something designed to handle the torque of the car. A RSX tranny would be blown on the first 3000rpm drop clutch launch. The ratios would be tighter, but the 5spd already has good ratios in the 1-2-3... a six speed might drop 0-60 by about .5-.7 sec (due to the launch) and the 1/4 might drop maybe .5.

I doubt it. I'm not completely brushed up on the intracacies of i-VTEC, but I would suspect that it's a completely different type of VTEC system. Not something you can just "bolt on" so to speak. I would expect that all new engines from now on will get i-VTEC however. So, probably with the next redesign, but not until then.

Doesn't i-VTEC vary the cam switch based on more than rpm? So if you floor it a 2000 rpm, it will switch over and give you max power instead if making you wait till 5000. Something like that should be easy enough to do with a little reprogramming. Of course getting it past the EPA on a 3.2L engine is another thing.

Personally I believe the manual will be faster then the auto. I wouldnt be susprised if they used the same tranny that was on the legend, just modified a bit.
